Hi Jodee!! How do you like the message board? I will send you an e-mail with the info you are looking for. Hope all is well with you!!! --An 88 Class Member
Hello, My name is Jodee Pullman (Salek) class of '88. I am trying to find Susan Revie...last place I can get to is Settle Wa.. Thanks for any help in advance. Jodee Pullman pullmantnt@juno.com
Happy Hollydays and a Merry New Year! I hope you are all staying warm. All the best to you and yours. Here's to 2005 being the best year yet! ~Lizzy (yep, I survived my first round of law school exams...but not before they kicked my ass!)
January 8th....Alumni Basketball....Guys & Girls....Go here for more info: http://www.phillips.k12.wi.us/
Rumor (but I think it's true)....Not only is a Subway coming to town (the food place not the transportation system!) but Phillips is also getting a County Market! And don't forget about the new Fastenal building. Wow, what a booming little town! Harbor View on Thursday, Everyone. Happy holidays! --'96QT
Hello to whom. This Brad Lietha From class of 79.Am currently retired Marine Corps (22 Years) living in Okinawa Japan.WWW.bikeshopgixxer.com Is my business.Feel free to post a reply
I've been through all the standard responses to the rude questions...I could teach you all some very choice responses. But, the "rude" relative is my mother-in-law, whom I love dearly but who just loooooooves babies and is chomping at the bit for her older son to provide a grandchild (or six). Law school is only going to keep her off my back for just so long! She's actually pretty nice about it, which in a way just makes it worse. I understand her desire for grandchildren, but that doesn't mean *I* am going to satisfy it, even if it means that five years from now (when I'm pushing 40 and maybe she finally accepts that I am not going to deliver) I lose my status as preferred daughter-in-law. <sigh> ~Lizzy
Lizzy, I'd just say, "I plan to start having kids as soon as you quit asking rude and inappropriate questions. Oops, looks like that won't be happening anytime soon!" That should shut them up. And the louder you say it, the better the effect, (as it draws attention that they were being stupid.--He, he!) Happy holidays. --'96QT
Lizzy, Here's a thought, people who ask impolite questions really should expect impolite questions right back at them. Or perhaps you could mention politely to anyone who is bugging you about having children, something to the effect of, "Am I understanding correctly that you think our family (meaning extended family, not your marriage) would like to have more children in it" Odds are they will say "yes". Then proceed to ask them when they are going to have another one, or if they are passed that stage let them know that nowadays there are fertility treatments for women of all ages, and if it is a guy let him know that they working on theories for how guys can have children, and perhaps he should volunteer!! If none of this works, you could even launch into a listing of reasons why you aren't planning on kids, it may turn out to be a real eye opener for those who can not respect other peoples right to make thier own decisions about their own lives and bodies. --An 88 Class Member
Hey, is anybody else here choosing not to have children? With the holidays approaching (which means impolite questions from family), I am looking for a support group that has a background more similar to mine. :-) ~Lizzy
Hey! Are you from the Class of '94? That class always did add some excitement to the day! --'96QT : )
Ohhhhh the class of '94! Outta control. Hall was down by where Zellinger had his class by the guidance office. People could never walk down that hall without getting books knocked outta their hands(gravity) and then kicked by every member of the class down the hall. After lunch they would bring all their left food and throw it around... Doe pee/skunk sent... droppin stink bombs in other halls... There was a Friday theme for awhile where they would throw pennies all over inbetween classes... Let's not forget the hall decorations at X-Mas. Stockings on their lockers with cut outs of liquor and cigaretts hanging out of them and a big banner that read "Merry Christmas from Marlboro Country!" Ohhhhh the good ole days!
The best "almost sit-in strike" occurred when the seniors of '94 had encouraged the entire student body to sit in the senior hall to oppose the pending hat & coat ban. Just before the strike was to occur, the principal, Scott Johnson, came on the announcements to say the ban was on hold until further thought was given to it. No strike occurred, the ban wasn't imposed, the seniors graduated, and next year the ban went into effect. Bummer! --'96QT
The best "prank" was when the Class of '96 took their float to the game when they weren't supposed to. All the class officers had to apologize to the other classes' officers. And then, get this, next year the administration requested that ALL the classes bring their floats to the parade. Must mean '96 had a good idea. Otherwise, there weren't too many pranks during the mid-90's. I'm sure there were a few but I'd have to give it more thought. --'96QT
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!! --An 88 Class Member
LIZZY: You are correct, the answer is A. Must be those legal skills working :) --An 88 Class Member
I think the trivia answer is A...but I never had Gracie, so what do I know? ~Lizzy
7-Dot: The answer is not "C", but it was a nice try :) --An 88 Class Member
I seem to recall a (basically harmless) bottle bomb being placed in a locker, set to go off when the locker door was opened. That really sent the administration into a tizzy...especially since it was perpetrated by the child of a teacher. Was the victim also the child of a teacher? ~Lizzy
Hmm, this one is probably not a "best" prank. I don't know who did it, and wouldn't say if I did. It seems that one morning Mr. Peterson woke to find a deer carcass in his back seet -- how rude! Or rank maybe? That one involved the police if I recall correctly. But whoever did it covered their tracks well. 7-Dot
While I really don't know, C sounds like her style. 7-Dot
Well I see a new "Coffee Talk" question, so how about a bit of trivia to go with it. In Mrs. Kielsmeier's room one person during class threw a raw egg against the side chalkboard, (one of a couple pranks that seemed to mysteriously take place during her class), Mrs. K was quite dismayed by the whole ordeal, and decided she would try a unique method to find out who did it. How did she go about trying to find out who did the deed? A. The next day she had everyone write a paper about the prior days events, hoping someone would give the details she wanted. B. She refused to let anyone leave the room, trying to get the person to confess, keeping everyone there til 6:00 that evening. C. She told the person or persons involved that they need to be adults and confess, and that they would not have any consequences if they did so. or D. None of the above. --An 88 Class Member
http://www.cockeyed.com and http://www.somethingawful.com are two great time killers. And as for the election question, Kerry all the way baby! The Pack won, so as we all know it's practically etched in stone. RT88
Lizzy, For starters, try: http://www.20q.net/index.html or http://www.Tickle.com --'96QT
What is everybody's favorite website?!? I need some new time-killing ideas for when I am avoiding work! ~Lizzy
<sigh> hot sauce cheese and chips. could somebody go eat some for me?!? <drool>
LOVEd the "pumpkin patch" joke. I might have to use that one here at school. ~Lizzy
My birthday was great! We went out to a nice Italian restaurant where my entire meal was free, and then we went to the comedy club, where my admission was free. Nothing like free stuff for your birthday!! The next day we went to the football game and had 2nd-row endzone seats...and our team won. ~Lizzy
Lizzy, How was your birthday earlier this month? Sorry I didn't stop by the message board on that day to wish you the best, but I hope it went well! Happy belated birthday! --'96QT : )
Okay....How do you fix a jack-o-lantern? With a pumpkin patch! HA! Sorry for the lame humor, but it is Halloween time. We need a little spirit around here! --'96QT : )
Hi All, Did you hear the news? Philly is a changing. A Subway is moving in, summer of 2005, located where the old Birchland Building used to be. --An 88 Class Member
How do you fix a jack-o-lantern? --'96QT (Punchline will follow if no one gets it.)
I just had to post something, to keep the board active. Is everyone out enjoying the beautiful autumn weather? Positively gorgeous here today!!! ~Lizzy
**********YEAH,it's snowing!********* Just wanted to share the first snowfall of the season out here with you all...lol... ENJOY!! **SNO**~
WooHoo...I figured out the paragraph! But, I'm not telling so others can enjoy the puzzle, too. My brain is not completely fried - yea! ~Lizzy
Good job, LIZZY. 'BOTE, I have heard the before, but do not remember the punchline. Here's one more: "This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it? It looks so plain you would think nothing was wrong with it! In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out! Try to do so without any coaching!" --'96QT : )
My favorite joke: What's black and white and has trouble getting through a revolving door? RT88
Things have really been hopping around here lately! Though, with fall being "back to school" time, maybe we should switch from memories of the Fair to memories of the first day of school? ~Lizzy
Of course, yesterday, today, and tomorrow are also consecutive. ~Lizzy
Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day are consecutive. ~Lizzy
Good job, 'bote. I only posted the one I signed, though. But both of those answers look good. I've got one more trivia question on-hand after this one: Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday? --'96QT
Nothing Charcoal 'bote
Yes, she is a photographer! Good one! Gee, I need to get some people from my class on this site to show our intelligence! Now....What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and gray when you throw it away? --'96QT : )
What is greater than God, but worse than the Devil? The poor people have it, the rich people want it. If you eat it, you will die?
She sounds like a photographer. RT88
Got it, 88CM. Way for you two to represent the Class of '88. Anyone else from the class want to show your intelligence?! Trivia #3: A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be? --'96QT : )
I think the convicted murderer should pick the room with the lions that haven't eaten for three years, that room should be the safest of the three as the lions could not be alive if they haven't eaten in three years. --An 88 Class Member
Good one, 7Dot. Any other scholars on this site? Here is another: A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires. The second is full of assassins with loaded guns. The third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him? --'96QT
Freeze one. 7Dot
TRIVIA: There are two plastic jugs filled with water. How could you put all of this water into a barrel, without using the jugs or any dividers, and still tell which water came from which jugs? --'96QT : )
HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND EVERYONE!! --An 88 Class Member
Hey Everyone, Remember awhile back the "Coffee Talk" question about what we would do if we could rule the world? Well since this is an election year, it started making me think. Class of 88 members should be starting to turn 35---So here it is, your chance to run for President!!! --An 88 Class Member P.S. I remember when I was in elementary school and learning that you had to be at least 35 to be president of the United States and well I remember thinking: "Why that OLD!!!!"
I sure hope we're able to put together SOMETHING for a class of '90 reunion next summer - would be a real shame to miss a 15 year! That's really great of Lizzy to even contemplate putting something together from afar - very kind offer and I hope it works out, especially finding a local accomplice! I'm fine with 4th of July weekend - any weekend that we can squeeze an extra day in is a good weekend indeed! Memories of the Price County Fair - hanging out there very late with my friends who were 4-Hers and were actually staying on the fairgrounds overnight (lucky dogs!), riding friends horses and taking them into the river back behind the horse barn, more cotton candy than anyone should ever eat at one sitting, deep fried pretty much ANYTHING, especially funnel cakes - it was all so fun with the lights and smells and sounds and eats. I have been to many fairs and carnivals in the Fox Valley area where I live and I love them all, but I must admit that the Price County Fair honestly supercedes them all - I have even been back to the Price County Fair in recent years to double check and make sure it's not just fond memories making me THINK that it's a better Fair overall! :) In other news, the baby is due any day now and I have advised my husband that if he wants any more kids after this one, he'd best be prepared to carry them himself - this has been a real challenge (although well worthwhile, I must admit) and I'm more than ready to move on to the even greater challenge of actual parenthood! 90VicePrez
Lizzy--Just read your post. Good luck with law school! I just had a friend graduate from all that, and he is happy to have it behind him. 'Bote--Great posting there; I enjoyed reading it. Those are the sort of Coffee Talk replies we need to keep this site alive! MT/TM, where the heck are you?--Too old to post on here anymore?! : ) --'96QT
The fair was quite excellent this year. Lots of games, many rides, tons of food stands, a full commercial building, many exhibits, and great entertainment. Blue Fiasco did an excellent job playing for the crowd. And the cheese curds were excellent! I had a few extras just for you, Lizzy! : ) Aside from that, my favorite memories of the fair are when I was little and all those rides and games just looked so exciting to me and a few friends, as the 80's music was blaring from speakers. The fair of 1997 was also an excellent time. Lots of us got together before going back to college and had some fun. I can still remember every detail like it was just last summer! --'96QT
Hmmm...it's been quiet around here. Not that I should talk, but at least I have the excuse of getting ready for law school. (I'm excited and terrified all at the same time.) In other news, we just had a baby llama a week ago. He's adorable and we call him Emmett. Hope all is well with all of you! ~Lizzy
Price County Fair memories? Eating goldfish to impress the ladies. Yeah, that worked well. 38 Special, REO Speedwagon, Van Halen and Night Ranger cranking out of the rides sound systems. Mean looking carnies. Scary looking carnies. Mean, Scary looking carnies. Trying to pick up the girls from out of town. For us non-farming folk, getting to climb on the machinery on display. Free stuff from the political parties. Didn't matter what it was, it was free. I think the Dems had popcorn all the time! Getting my ear pierced once and then getting rid of the thing 2 or 3 weeks later. Eyeing the Beer Garden with lust trying to figure out if we could get served or find someone to buy us some. I actually bought a leather keychain with my name on it one year that I still have and use to this day. Can't keep an expensive pair of sunglasses but I still have that keychain! and of course the demolition derby! nothing like cars smashing themselves to pieces. ahhh, good times.... 'bote
I do know of one store where cheese curds are available in the "specialty foods" section. However, instead of the familiar plastic baggie they usually come in back home, these are in a red mass-produced package that one would never guess contained cheese curds without reading the fine print or peering through the window of clear plastic. It's really quite a shame. I have purchased the red-packed cheese curds, of course, but they really aren't comparable to fresh. A few seconds in the microwave renders them edible, but not much better than that. Some of the cheese here comes from <gasp> New Jersey, even though Wisconsin is right next door. Makes no sense to me! ~Lizzy90
Spoken like a true Wisconsinite, Lizzy!!! Hey don't they even have them in the freezer case at the store? --An 88 Class Member
My favorite memory of the fair...deep fried cheese curds! Can you believe many people don't even know what cheese curds are here? Needless to say, no deep fried curds at the fairs. ~Lizzy90
88, since it's been almost 3 yrs since my last venture back there.. who knows when I'll actually get there. I've been trying every year since then--not working out so well! Maybe the moon, stars and planets will be aligned by the next reunion. ***~
Lizzy, while July 4th weekend might be good as people return home to see family or have a day of vacation from work I'm not sure how the businesses like not being open to public on that weekend. I may be wrong on that as I've heard of other classes doing things around the 4th. I've got some info for you on the old addresses and such. Email me at ChicagoDavey@hotmail.com if you want the info from the 10 year. 90guy
Looks like the Classes of '84 & '94 had a good time in town last night celebrating their 20 & 10 year reunions, respectively. '84 was at Harbor View and '94 was at Birch Island and then Bossman's. Class of '90, I think you should try to have that reunion next year. --'96QT : )
I think 88CM makes an unfortunately-good point about reunions...another five years might be too late for some of our classmates to get together. We don't have to have the whole class to have a good time and catch up and maybe get to know people differently than we knew them before. That said...on the off chance I would be willing and able to spearhead a reunion-planning effort (I'm not local, but I may be able to recruit a local accomplice), what are the thoughts on holding it July 4 weekend (which may be the only weekend I will be able to return for a reunion myself next summer)? ~Lizzy90
Hmm, my favorite memory of the Price County fair, would have to be when I just got out of fourth grade. That year the fair was much larger than normal, two rows of games and tons of rides (remember I was ten). I remember going rides, that I had never seen or gone on before, not knowing what they did exactly. (Good thing I guess, cause after I was off and saw what it did, well I would not have went on it if I had saw it in operation before!) --An 88 Class Member
SNO, I assume the next one will be a twenty??? I guess every five years perhaps. Routine or whatever you want to call it, by the time the next reunion rolls around, I think we are going to have to get you there some how!!!! --An 88 Class Member
Truer words were never written 88CM!! I wish I could've made it to the reunions but somehow being miles and miles away, something always comes up. Since there was a 15, when is the next one to be held? I may actually have a bit of routine and normalcy in my life by then..LOL.... and then again, I'm not holding my breath either... Until then.... ENJOY THE SNO*********
Looks like the Mid-Summer Festival is being sponsored by the Catholic church, but everyone is invited. That's all the extra info I have heard. --'96QT
Hi, I understand that some people may think that classes should wait for a twenty year reunion, but waiting isn't always a good idea. Things can happen, people in the class can die. We had our fifteen year reunion, and one of the people wrote and said they wouldn't be able to make it but they would definitely be wanting to attend the twenty, well a couple months after the fifteen, he died. I guess what I am trying to say, is you can't count on anything, no one knows for sure what the future will bring. I say set up and have the reunion, have the opportunity there for whomever wishes to attend. If it turns out to be a few, have a great time, the others will realize they missed out on all the fun. And who knows maybe you all will be surprised, and you will get a large turnout. Let them know time is precious and short. --An 88 Class Member
Welcome, 90VicePrez! I'm not sure what the Mid-Summer Festival will be about, but I have heard a little talk about kid's games, sports games, a silent auction, food, & refreshments. Maybe The-Bee will mention it this week for more info. You all should have a 15-year reunion! Do you have money in your class account? Our 5-year was great and the 10-year will be excellent in 2006! --'96QT
Oh, in reply to postings about a 15 year reunion for the class of '90 - I've actually been talking to a few people up there and I'm rather sad to admit I'm not seeing much interest. No one wants to plan it (last reunion was planned by people from hundreds of miles from Phillips for the very same reason - no one in town seemed willing to put it together!) and everybody just shrugs and says "20 will be better." Just *HOW* 20 will be better is beyond me, because they STILL won't want to plan it, but that seems to be the sad consensus. 90Guy and I were talking about having our own little mini-reunion up there next summer - just invite a select few people that we have kept in touch with and would like to see. My husband and I could host - we have 5 acres of land in Lugerville, nothing fancy but lots of room for camping and bonfires, etc. Just a thought, if there's any interest. 90VicePrez
Wow, neat site! I was told about it by my friend, 90Guy. I'm also from the class of '90 - I live in Oshkosh now (I can't believe it's been almost 12 years now that I've been here!)but my mom, sisters, nieces and nephews are all still in Phillips and my dad (the defector!!!) moved to Prentice, so I get up there pretty frequently. HOWEVER - my family members are terrible about knowing what's going on in town, so I didn't even know there was a Mid-Summer Festival!! What's it all about? We ARE coming up this weekend, so I could probably go (maybe bring my sister's kids - is it something kid-friendly?). Tell me about it! 90VicePrez
Hey Lizzy, not sure what kind of turnout we'd get if we had a 15 year reunion. A couple other classmates and I talked about it a little. I helped on the 10 year and know I'm not going to organize from a distance again so we'd have to find someone else, maybe someone local. I've got a bunch of info on the addresses (or what they were 5 years ago at least). 90guy
Any fellow '90 Classmates...next year will be 15 since graduation. Is there interest in a reunion? ~Lizzy90
Hey isn't it time for a new trivia question? Anybody got some good trivia??
Hi Denali, Yes great to see you back. Hmm you have me curious as to who you ran into? Could it be the one who used to come in late most mornings and always change the slip on the door before the slips were picked up? How are all the renovations etc. coming along---must be getting close or done by now? --An 88 Class Member
DENALI--What a nice surprise to see you back here! I will tell 88CM to check the message board to see your recent post. Yeah, 29 years old; huh? Ha, ha! You should be like my cousin and celebrate your "5th annual 29th birthday!" He is so silly. Take care. --'96QT
Hey, thanks for the early birthday wishes! You're the best! I can't believe 29 already!! :-) Ran into one of our homeroom buddies 88CM! She said hi, and may contact you?? I'll try to check back soon!!~Denali
Did anybody else expect that they would somehow feel "different" after graduation...only to find that it was pretty anticlimactic (kind of like losing your virginity)?
Hey, QT - you were not the first to wear shorts under your gown, and I'm sure neither was I. Heck, I didn't even wear a nice shirt - just a tank top. I figured if I had that goofy collar on my gown, I didn't need a collar on anything else. I almost felt bad for everybody else who wore real clothes under their gowns. ~Lizzy
Well, 88CM's post got me to thinking. (Doesn't 88CM always get us thinking?) I remember our class trip. Brian P. & a few others went in a "restricted" area at Copper Falls, but no one found out, though there are pictures to prove it! Robin & someone else climbed on the rocks by the waterfall as the parent volunteers hollered across, but that did not stop them. Carrie & Lynne created some trouble when they wanted to switch buses on the ride home but got caught. It was a cold day, too! I remember the day of the senior slide show and how bittersweet it was. But then we all went out to Solberg after graduation practice. Bowie asked Mr. Heath to call his name as "Bowie 'Studmuffin' Retzlaff" during practice, and he did. At Solberg, Maggie injured her leg and was on crutches at the ceremony. On the ceremony day, Jason R. was not allowed to put "XC Ski" on his graduation cap. We were all instructed not to throw our caps, and we are probably the first class that actually listened to that rule! We had a long ceremony and many of us hung around the school for quite awhile afterward. Ah, there are so many memories now that I think about it! Good times! --'96QT : )
Graduation ceremony remembrances: 1. During practice the threat that if we didn't do it correctly we would be there all day, and have to come back the next day. 2. Prior to graduation everyone figuring out who they would be walking down with. 3. Waiting in line to go for the ceremony and having Mrs. Janetski, walk down the line and force, yes, force all caps into proper alignment. She didn't appear to care if there were bobbi pins holding them in position, and if half of your hair was yanked when she "adjusted" the cap. 4. At the end of the ceremony caps flying, and people trying to keep an eye on which cap was their's. 5. One long speech given, and one extremely short speech given, by our classmates. 6. Mr. Glynn "graduating", retiring with our class---Could we have stressed him out that much? --An 88 Class Member
In keeping with the "high" standard I have set here today on the board, here is another joke: A teenage boy left the yard with some chicken wire. His grandpa asked, "Just wait one minute. What are you doing with that?" "I am going to catch some chickens," the boy answered. The grandpa said, "You'll never catch chickens with chicken wire." Sure enough, Grandpa was right. The boy came home without any chickens. So, the next day the boy left the yard with duct tape. "Just wait one minute. What are you doing with that?" Grandpa asked. "I'm going to catch some ducks," said the boy. "You won't have any more luck with the duct tape than you did with the chicken wire," the grandpa said. Well, this time the grandpa was wrong, and the boy came home with a few ducks stuck to the duct tape. The grandpa was amazed. On the third day, the boy left the yard with some pussy willows. The Grandpa said, "Just wait one minute, I want to come with you for this one....!" : ) So, anyone watching the Pistons vs. Lakers game right now? I am! Go Pistons! Gee, with how badly the Lakers got beat that one night, Kobe looked like he'd rather be in a court of law than on that basketball court! --'96QT : )
For graduation, we had a long, sad ceremony. I know a lot of people could have gotten busted before graduation, but luckily, no one did, even though there were some close calls. Anyway, that was awhile ago for us and even longer ago for you 80's folks! I wore a nice shirt and shorts under my cap and gown. Everyone assumed I had a dress on and changed for my party....But I was comfortable all day. (Sorry, Avery!) Here's a joke that I heard a college professor told his students. (See what paying for an education gets a person!) How can you cure a truck driver's impotence? --Get him a new Peter built (Peterbilt)! --'96QT : )
Ah, yes, graduation season. Anybody want to share graduation memories? Not that most of us remember that far back...
Attended PHS graduation this past weekend. Not a whole lot to report. Same ceremony as always. Balloon archway for graduates as they entered the gym was a nice touch. Some attending still seem to think Jeans and T-shirt are good dress etiquette for graduations. Later all, Avery
MT/TM--Great to see you came back to our playground here for a visit! Bring the boys back! --'96QT
What do you mean, SIMON? If you are asking about how to avoid a ticket, FOR EXAMPLE, if someone is pulled over for going 15-30 over the limit, then I could provide some helpful tips. However, I don't like to call it "avoiding a ticket." I like to call it "The understanding police officer made an ACCURATE and informed decision based on the facts that were presented." Not that I have first-hand experience or anything with "verbal warnings," but I will try my best. (Please note, some of these may work better than others.)
10. Tell the officer that you are training for the upcoming Indy 500 and
forgot that you were no longer on the track. "Indianapolis isn't that far
from Phillips; is it? At least, it didn't seem that far away while I was
speeding to get here!"
9. Say, "It's not my fault, Officer. Blame the Phillips School District.
You see, I was taught by Mr. Harlan French. I figured that as long as I kept
checking my blind spot, I didn't need to worry about anything else."
(Thanks, Mr. French, for being a good sport in this joke, should you ever happen
to read this!)
8. One could also state, "It's not my fault. I am having flashbacks from
when Mr. French threatened to stuff me in the trunk if I wasn't quiet in the
backseat with the two guys." (Again, thank you, Mr. French!)
7. You could simply mention, in passing, that you have never been pulled over
before. (This one only works if you have NEVER been pulled over before,
because GUESS WHAT?--They check that stuff.)
6. "Something must be wrong with your radar!" Yep, that is it, always
blame the electronics.
5. Puppy dog eyes and innocence will get a girl very far. That is all I need to
say. Men of all ages love that stuff. (If you are a guy and trying to get
out of a ticket from a male officer, do not try this one, or you may have other
problems on your hands!)
4. As you are waiting for the officer to approach, turn down the music so it
doesn't sound like you are having a party in your car, put the cell phone
away--out of sight, and if there is time, apply a little lip gloss. (I'll
have to use the lip gloss thing next time, er, if I ever get pulled over!--There
is only so much time to do things, ya know!)
3. No matter what, stick to your story. Remember it, stick to it, and look the
policeman in the eye when you say it, for added believability!
2. Be polite and cute.
1. Be '96QT! : ) (Oops, I guess that is the same as #2 on this list!)
Quite seriously, I have been told by many others that the police are all over HWY 13 tonight, so look out when you come up this way this weekend, especially on the Harbor View side of town! But if you do get pulled over, hopefully the above advice will help. And if it doesn't help and you do get a ticket, don't sit there in shame as the cars pass you by. They have all sped at some time in their lives as well; they just didn't get caught. It is like the poor pregnant girl....You know, the people that point the finger at the one who gets caught are the same ones that are quietly going about the exact same business. So, WAVE as the people pass you by.--Hey, you EARNED that ticket! Wasn't the thrill of the speed worth the little extra cost?! : ) Just keep telling yourself that to take away the sting. : )
Let's hear it for the flat tax! Why should those who have achieved greater financial success bear a higher proportion of the tax burden? That only limits their ability to have a positive impact on the economy, or to contribute privately to charitable programs. Not to mention, it essentially punishes success. ~Lizzy
Ooops, forgot to post my signature to that last little note. SIMON LIVES!!!! --The Informant Simon
Hey Everyone, Perhaps someone would like to ask '96QT all about her ticket avoidance practices. MT/TM, Glad to see you back, been awhile.
What a tragedy!!! PMS is no longer Blue and Gold--what is wrong with that district. I will never forget those ball tucker blue and gold basketball shorts! MT/TM
RT88, Glad to see you are still hanging out here. Did you really want to get me started? :) I understand and agree that some items in the tax code were implemented to help people who need it as they have had rough roads and hard times in their lives. But there are people that do not have kids that also fall on hard times as well, and the tax code could care less about them for the most part. If someone needs help I think they should be helped. However I think this might be better accomplished by means other than the tax code. And I feel if our tax dollars were used more effectively in other areas taxes could be lowered for everyone. I do not feel aiding families through the tax code makes things equitable: The 2004 poverty guidelines as set forth by the US Department of Health and Human Services states that the poverty level for a family of four for 2004 is $18,850. How the tax code is now a family of four (which has two children under 17 in it) making $40,000, which is over double the poverty level, this family only pays in approximately $49 in federal taxes, and that is if they do not itemize, if itemizing they would pay in less. I guess I do not feel that the tax code should reward population growth. I believe that when a decision is made to have a child, or when people know that a child could happen no matter how careful they are, people need to be financially responsible to care for it. I do not think that children or marital status should be mixed into the tax code, at least to the extent that they are. And I think that everything could be handled in a more equitable manner if it were not mixed in with the tax code. Where situations could be looked at as well as the numbers. I also do not feel that the bracket system we have is fair, I think it should be a flat rate, which starts above a given amount, which could be set at perhaps poverty level, maybe even mixed with an incentive, that if a person/family is at poverty level to get no tax they could partake in a program to aid them in learning how to lift themselves out of that level. Then any additional help that a family needs could be looked on at an individual basis to see why, and not only help them out financially, but also with building blocks, education, training, counseling, and behavioral modification type programs for families where the problems are stemming from abuse, gambling, and/or drug and alcohol abuse problems or due to broken homes, etc. A tax break to a family that is trying, is helpful. But one to a family that has issues, just enables the person or persons with the problem to dig themselves in deeper. Further, all the different credits and the like have numerous rules that are way too complicated for the average person to wade through causing confusion where some people do not get the refund that they have a right to claim, or causing others to either over or underpay the taxes that are due. --An 88 Class Member (only my opinion)
Okay, so RT88 & 88CM want education revamped. Not saying that I don't agree but....Where are all the teachers and parents on this site? You guys should be all over this. Let's discuss how we should revamp education. Good topic.--Maybe it will bring back some of the old board members.--I know you guys are out there. SNO, is that you that wrote?--If so, WAY, "Friends" is over. : ) But I am sure you knew that. Perfect ending, in my opinion. Ross & Rachel together, Monica & Chandler with twins, and Joey & Phoebe being Joey & Phoebe. "Survivor" ended well, too. Have a great weekend! --'96QT : )
88CM – let me get you started… :) 1) I agree. 2) I agree. 3) I think it’s important that dependants are included in the tax system. We don’t want people dipping into poverty just because they’ve had children, which may happen (more often) if the cost of raising kids is not taken into account when taxes are figured. That may raise the crime level. Since kids cannot produce income, their cost should be subtracted. I believe taxes should only be assessed on any income above the poverty line, which the whole dependent exemption is trying to take into account. Maybe I don’t get your point. 4) I agree. 5) Maybe, maybe not. BTW, I don't have kids, just a philosophy. - RT88
FRIENDS ENDED?? NO WAY!! ******~
Happy Cinco de Mayo! --'96QT : )
If I ruled the world, in no particular order: 1. Economically speaking, things would be different, waste and abuse would be removed from government and non-profits, and the like. Don't get me started :) 2. Education would be revamped: I think if the repetition were removed, most of what we learned from K-12 could be taught by the sixth or eighth grade, and the following years could begin enrichment college or trade courses. (I don't know how you all feel, but to me sometimes it seemed we learned one thing one year, then the next year the same thing, boring, busy work) I fully realize that not all learn at the same pace, but I do think for the vast majority, a lot more could be accomplished with the right structure, tools etc. Further if a student is slower in one thing, the student may excel in something else and get done with the one and then have more time to spend with the other item that is giving them more trouble. 3. The tax structure as well definitely could use some revamping. I don't think it should revolve around the number of children one has, or the marital status of a person. Further brackets could be reduced substantially if what I discussed in number one were implemented. Again don't get me started :) 4. If a person were convicted of a crime, I think the punishment should fit the crime, why overcrowd the prisons where huge fines, restitution, and community service would do just as good. Prison or Jail should be used for Murderers, Rapists, and other violent offenders. Non-violent should be able to be handled by other means. 5. Upon thinking about it all, I don't think I would want to rule the world, as I am sure that the ramifications of some of these actions would not sit well with quite a few and I think I would be de-throned in a hurry!!! :) --An 88 Class Member
LIZZY--The Spanish program at PHS did go downhill fast, (do I and my classmates ever have stories about that one!).... and now it is non-existent. By the way, I didn't create the question and the list of frequent answers people phoned in, I just post 'em here for you fine folks. And maybe those were trick answers! Any guesses? Have a great evening, Everyone! --'96QT
Actually, Mrs. V was a good teacher. She really put a lot of herself into her teaching. I was bummed when she retired. And, from what I've heard, the Spanish program at PHS never really recovered. ~Lizzy90
Since when are Santa Claus and Mother Nature fictional? I'd steer clear of QT...she's bound to be struck by lightning, or at least not get any Xmas presents. Or maybe she'll be visited by Mrs. V instead. Not that she'd know the dangers of that... ~Lizzy90
Where is everyone these days? Maybe we need a little trivia to spice this place up again. Last I saw St. Pat, he said he'd be stopping by, but where is he? Hmmm....How about this non-related to high school trivia that I heard on the radio this morning while driving to work. It was the "Impossible Question." Which fictional character has over 350 organizations based on him/her?" They didn't give answers, but I will provide them: A. Sherlock Holmes B. Superman C. Mickey Mouse D. Betty Boop E. Santa Claus F. Mother Nature --'96QT : )

If I ruled the world I would first implement 90guy's policies. Then I would declare that all politicians must tell the truth and back it with facts from both sides of every issue (in other words no half truths -- they're more dangerous than an outright lie.) A lot of problems would be solved in short order, and a lot more would be recognized as unsolvable. 7Dot
Help 88 class member-it's that time of year again!! I haven't even thought about it yet! We're in the house and starting to move things in from storage!! It only took a year-wow! Makes one appreciate running water and electricity! I'll check back again soon-Denali p.s. Happy Easter!!
Hi All, I haven't posted in some time. Have had a ton of things going on. Yes, Sno, the cookies are and were yummy, and the letter was a great bonus!! Lizzie, congrats on the acceptances, hope you get/got the one that you wanted most!!! Glad to see everyone still hanging out here from time to time and having some fun. --An 88 Class Member
If I ruled the world? He, he! That could be fun, but wait, I already rule MY world, so isn't that close enough? : ) Seriously, I don't think I would want such an awesome job. There would be oodles of changes I would make to improve our government and all sorts of things. Also, people need to have more manners and not take offense at things, so if I ruled the world, that would be a law.--Lighten up on things that just don't matter! : ) Love & friendship above all else. Have a good one, Everyone! And yes, Sno, they were good.--I already have one box gone! --'96QT
Ah, life get's better after 30, don't worry about it Sno.
If I ruled the world one thing I'd do is make people accountable for their actions. Enough of the he said she said and placing the blame on everyone but themselves, granted sometimes it is someone else’s fault most of the time it's the person in the mirror.
Next to have more fun I would grant a year holiday for everyone once they turn 18 or 21 to travel the world free (albeit cheap but still free) before they get into the grind of work for the next 40-45 years.

If I ruled the world, I wouldn't be having another birthday this year...I'm staying 29 FOREVER!! LOL ***********SNO**********

If I ruled the world...chocolate for everyone!! Chocolate is a force for good in the world. ~Lizzy
Congrats, LIZZIE, on the acceptance letters. Thanks for the birthday wishes. The PhMS-ers are now the Junior Loggers, so I guess their mascot is the Logger, like the high school. I know that I wasn't a Mother's Day celebration; I was started due to the celebration of something else, but if this topic stirs some activity on this site, go for it! Thanks, AVERY, for the e-mail birthday wishes, as well. --'96QT
Hey...if they changed the colors for P(h)MS, then what is the new mascot?!?
Happy Birthdays to all the February babies! Born in February, so probably conceived in May...Mothers' Day gifts, perhaps? Is that ironic? Discuss. ~Lizzy
Yippee!! I got accepted!!! I got my first law school acceptance letter...now I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a few more choices. ~Lizzy
Thank you, SNO! So far, the on-going celebration has been nice, and I am sure it will continue to be that way. Happy Valentine's Day to everyone, as well. Also, SNO, my mouth is watering.--I cannot wait to get that package from you in the mail. --'96QT
Happy Birthday to Avery, 88, and 96QT....and of course, congrats on the new parents & their new babies.. how wonderful!!

Alumni Game Results for Getting Older But Slower (Johnson, Simpson, Meives, Gehrke, Prohaska, etc.) vs. Carl's Kids (Petruzalek, Matsick, Kreiling, Baratka, Reiff, Raskie, etc.): 72 to 92--Carl's Kids won. I couldn't believe that Getting Older was given a 16 point handicap to start with. What is with that? Oh well, a nice effort by all. --'96QT : )
90guy, Excellent job, yes the answer is A. Say did you feel like you were back in say Wirth's or Nelson's class for a moment, with the "current event" twist to the game? Anyway good work.

I'm going to guess A to the trivia. I know one of my nephews was one of the kids that approached the school board or teachers or whatever.

E. None of the above.

Whoever just posted...Too funny! Glad you broke that resolution! --'96QT
My resolution was to stop posting to message boards.
Doh!!!
Hey! Happy New Year, Everyone! The intro to '04 (New Year's Eve/Day) was awesome. I didn't make any resolutions, but maybe it should have been to avoid blue-eyed males. (See how that sort of corresponds with my Christmas wish?!--Ah, I am just kidding!--Anyway, I know I would break that one in two seconds flat!) I'm really not into resolutions, actually. Anyone make any? --'96QT : )

Never checked out the forum on the Bee although I do read it on-line. But I do agree it is cool that you guys organized this site. Thanks.
Also Happy New Years everyone! 90Guy
Check this out....It is a good thing we have this little home on the Internet here. Not only did "The-Bee" create that log-in policy, which prompted us to move to this site, but now they have shut down the forums over there with this message: "The forum is currently down and under review. We thank all who have positively contributed. The site has seen many great debates, but has also been abused with logs that were in poor taste and bad judgment." What was ever said that was so bad? Just some good memories being posted and a little friendly sparring/flirting on occasion. Glad we moved here years ago! --'96QT : )
Merry Christmas, Everyone! --'96QT

A very Merry Christmas to all former and current Phillips denizens! Won't be making it up this year as we are t-minus 7 days and counting until the birth of our first! Tip a few at the Harbor for me. Happy New Year as well!

What do I want for Christmas? Hmmm, how about something that comes with blue eyes? Ha, ha!--You can't tell me that you guys didn't expect an answer like that from me! : ) I guess for Christmas I just want everyone to be happy and then have an excellent 2004!

Was in Phillips this past weekend for the first time in probably 3 years, and I didn't get to have any hot sauce cheese & chips!!! :-( Guess that's what happens when you're only in town for one night, and Stoney doesn't open until 5 (which is precisely the starting time of the event I was attending). <sigh> I'm going to have to plan a pilgrimage. It was nice seeing the old town again - and the few familiar faces. ~Lizzy

90guy- This is a personal message for you...(sorry all)...you have me pegged, also included in the short list is, singing opera in the car, stopping to celebrate your car milestone and of course buying the car in La Crosse. We always just kind of did our own thing and somehow it always involved your car. I am good, life just kind of keeps on happening and I guess I don't have anything to complain about, I wanted to complete the answer to my "question" from a few years back. Its hard when there is someone wandering around out there who still owns such a huge piece of you! It doesn't seem to matter how many years pass. I know you understand. I don't think I can post here anymore, I am waaaaay too sentimental.

Happy Holidays ~Lizzy
AVERY--Glad to see you are back! Yes, I actually did have friendship bead safety pins in the very early to middle elementary school years. I also had a pair or two of leg warmers, I will admit. How have you been? --'96QT : )

lol, haven't run into anyone from Phillips or the area where I'm at. Although met a couple people that know where it is but that is rare. Met one person who remembers the town becaues they bought liquor at Totem Pole. The closest I can normally get people is Rhinelander or Minocqua as the FIBS have summer homes up there or sent kids to summer camps up there.
Do agree that Hein was one of the coolest teachers.
Proud2b93, if you can include main street and power tools on the roof then I remember. How the hell have you been?
Poster at: Monday, November 03, 2003 08:50:21 PM,
What year did you graduate from Phillips and what's your code name (for easier communication) :)
--An 88 Class Member
I live in Michigan these days (the lower part...they barely claim the UP down here), and only occasionally do I run into people from WI, let alone anyone who has the foggiest idea where Phillips is. When I use Green Bay as a reference point for where I last lived in WI, they act like they have some idea where that is, but I don't think they do. Heck, these people can't even pronounce the state right...it's WESconsin. Argh! They don't say MESHigan. Any other out-of-staters around here who miss home???
88CM - Nope, I didn't see Mr. Hein do that, I just thought his personality fit the image.
But I do remember one day when he talked about his experiences in the Vietnam War for the entire period. It was strange because he comes off as a goofy, easy-going person most of the time and he was saying some of the most serious things I'd ever heard. Very trippy.
RT88
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!
Yes I remember the simulator--particularly all the error codes at the end--and the seatbelts, all I remember about them is they were different. Like they fastened differently or something. I think we probably learned to watch out for more road hazards via our Atari games than from that simulator!! :)
--An 88 Class Member
Mr. Hein was by far my favorite teacher...he seemed to get it. And I was pretty sure if asked he may go out back and light a joint with you.
Its fun trying to determine who all the players are on this board.
90guy I thought I had you but if the football field means nothing I may be wrong. Other hints include a pool table, your parents dining room table and the dock at Prohaska's house on the lake.
That should get everyone wondering.
For those others of you not still living in the big PHIPS do you find that no matter where you go you can find people from the area. I still live in Wisconsin so that my be the catch, but I am always running into people from Phillips. I hate the folks who say oh you,re from there, my family has a cabin there. Damn foreigners....that's what I say.
TRIVIA FOR ALL:
It used to be that students did morning announcements...that all changed when one student who worked at IGA got up and started announcing specials in aisle 7. Who was that student?
A)Laddie Zellinger B)Fran Moser C)Carl Pippenger d)Rob Wolfe
7DOT, 90GUY, LIZZY : Very good reasoning, and thought, but it wasn't Mr. Zellinger. I tossed him in there to liven up the mix and make it a little more thought provoking. Mr. Zellinger has been known to do all sorts of interesting things but this time RT88 had the correct answer. Nice try though everyone.
RT88: Excellent Job, yes, it was Mr. Hein. Perhaps you could picture it because you witnessed it?? :) Is my assumption that you witnessed it correct?
--An 88 Class Member
Any word on any of our soldiers overseas? I remember the Persian Gulf War with my dad and my brother both gone...my heart goes out to the families with loved ones in Iraq and elsewhere these days. ~Lizzy
I remember Zellinger jumping off the desk...something about parachuting? But I'm sure he could crawl underneath. If "hiding" is an accurate description, I would guess Giese. C'mon '88, put us out of our misery! Who was it and, more importantly, WHY? ~Lizzy
I'm going to have to go with Mr. Hein under the desk. I just can't picture any of the others doing that.
RT88
Proud2b93, trying to figure out who you are now, can't really decide by the amount you wrote but the 50 yard line does ring a bell.
RT88 true on the Johnny's cabin, although if the walls could talk it might make for an interesting new reality tv series. lol, They've got enough of those stupid shows.
As for the tree, the only thing I could think of is an Oak because it's a hard wood and I can be stubborn/hard headed at times.
For the other trivia, I'd have to say it was Zellinger as well. 7Dot, like you analysis on this.
90Guy
I'll answer the Coffee Talk to get everyone going on it. I will say that I am a beautiful orangish-red maple tree in the center of a forest of boring popples! ; ) --'96QT : )
Hey, person who just posted, please come up with a code name so I can reference you easier! Anyway, I remember the driver's ed stuff, but as my class called it, it was the sTimulator! : ) Gotta love '96! --'96QT
Mr. Zellinger for sure, under the desk on top of the desk that guy was all over the place. Who remembers the Drivers Ed. simulator trailer??? That whole system may explain why there are so many traffic violations every week in The Bee.
Damn typos, that should be "everyone would be stunned speachless -- still, so not her."
7Dot
While I could see 'Doc' Hein doing that for laughs, no one would be puzzled -- they'd laugh, so not him.
If Ms. Giese did that I think everyone would be stunned speachless -- stilol, so not her.
Cervany was cool, but his "Desk" was a lab counter, so he couldn't get under it.
So the answer is Zellinger (B) although I sometimes wonder why we were puzzled. He has a sense of humor that is a bit out of phase with most of the rest of us -- although sometimes quite funny.
If I'm wrong, well then I'm quite puzzled all over again... :-)
7Dot
TRIVIA TIME:
Which PHS teacher puzzled his/her students when they entered the classroom and found him/her hiding under his/her desk?
A. Ms. Giese B. Mr. Zellinger C. Mr. Cervany D. Mr. Hein E. None of the above
--An 88 Class Member
Johnny's cabin still exists? You've GOT to be kidding. Lots of good memories are hanging in the air at that place... if only the walls could talk.
Actually, if they could talk we'd probably burn it down to cover our butts.

Proud2b93--Hey! Finally someone at this web site who was in the high school at the same time I was! Amazing that some of the younger kids are finally finding our little message board playground! Keep checking back and post some memories! --'96QT : )
I just stumbled across this website while reminiscing about the great northwoods. I think I know several of those who post and probably have stories about all or most of you myself. 90guy I know who you are, I have been wondering how you are doing?!?!? I can't pass a football field without thinking of you and staring at the 50 yard line. GOOD TIMES, GOOD TIMES. Wow were we nuts!!!!!!I remember the senior sit-in regarding Copper Falls. You people were relentless. Every class has its story, ours has to be the senior party that got busted at Hanson's Hole... 2 people ran, crossed the river and walked 5 miles to escape from the cops. Turns out they didn't even ticket anyone and those we didn't run stuck around and partied some more. I hear Johnny's cabin is still Johnny's cabin, WOW. We had a great reunion this summer, it somehow ended with skinny dipping, and golfing off of a floating raft. Some things never change :)

I figured, at the rate messages were being posted, Homecoming would have come and gone before anyone checked the board anyway. So, somebody give us a report once Homecoming is over!
Homecoming is this coming weekend, October 17th. It hasn't arrived yet! --'96QT
It's been pretty quiet around here. Has everyone been out enjoying the fall weather? How was Homecoming, those that went?
OK fine, I'll post! I think that pursuing a career in a small town can be very difficult, certainly depending upon your vocation. Certainly you won't find much work in the area as a nuclear physicist but even more seemingly mundane jobs in finance or engineering or teaching or research or aren't feasible just by virtue of the lack of large industry (I know Phillips and the surrounding areas have industry but not like in a large city) or universities. Small towns present limitations. 'nonymous
Hey! So, I see someone had a difficult time posting. Is everyone afraid to post after this mess, for fear of it looking like the next person posting didn't know what they were doing?! Ah, well, I don't care if I look that way, so I'll post! I do agree with 7Dot & 90Guy somewhat too. I just mean overall there is a lot a person can do in a small town if they just try it instead of saying "You can't do that in a small town." But certainly NASA jobs and stuff like that would be a bit tricky in Phillips. So, where is everyone and how have you all been? Happy October 1st! --'96QT
I have to agree with 90guy. There are whole areas of research that can not be done in a small town, they require the backing and infrastructure of either a large university or company. As with many things, communication is key, and teleconferencing just doesn't cut it when you're trying to explain a complicated system or trying to work your way into your bosses graces....yes who you know rules in the work place, and that requires close contact. You can't golf or have lunch over the phone. Now the reverse is true as well. There are a lot of enjoyable small town jobs that are not available in a city.
7Dot
Sorry all but I disagree that you could have any job in a small town like Philly. On the same note though you can't have any job in a big city like Chicago either. There isn't much here for a hunting guide (well besides the hitmen working for the mobsters) or farmer for a quick example in Chicago. For a small town, there isn't much for a tactical submarine OM. I do agree that you can strive on your own and shoot for your goals and still be successful in a small town but you can't have any job you wish. If so you would need to travel a lot and reside in multiple locations.
90guy
How come it isn't SNOing in here? I thought that with the new question that SNO requested, I would see some flurries! : ) As for my answer, I think anything is possible in Phillips or any small town. If someone says you cannot do it, prove 'em wrong. --'96QT : )
I think it is possible to live in a small town and still have the opportunities of a more metropolitan area...if the small town is near a larger one. A large part of Phillips' charm is that it is so far away from the hustle and bustle of "city" life. I'm not sure I'd want to trade that for a wider range of opportunities. However, right now, I'm pursuing opportunity. I wouldn't mind having at least a summer place in the Phillips area some day. ~Lizzy
****=SNO :) Nice to see you too!
HMM, it seems we have a new question of the week:
I believe that in any small town (just like anywhere) opportunities exist (you just have to see them and help them along and be able to cultivate them, through time, effort, capital, risk, courage, etc.), sometimes in a small town though I realize that some opportunities need more of a helping hand, more time to cultivate them, more capital to be raised by the individual who sees a dream or a possibility, more marketing on the individual's part to get others on the bandwagon, as it may be the first of its nature in a small town.
So I think yes a person could have almost any job that they wished for in a small place like Philly, but they may have to work harder to get it, and may have to take larger risks than what they may have to take if they were to go to a place where the job, industry, facility, etc. exists. Of course I realize there are some exceptions, starting or getting the government for instance to set up a Space program and to launch astronauts into outer space from a small town like Philly, would be virtually impossible, but for the most part I think most careers, could be done in a small town.
Although the person may have to take on a different role within the career choice to pull it off, more of an Entrepenurial role verses just the career itself. So for some careers, it may be more difficult, and there is the possibility of it falling through, but overall I think the potential of everyone lies within everyone, not necessarily with where they chose to live, but with what they choose and how they choose to go about it. I think it is more of a question of what a person "wants" to do. And each "want" is different for everyone, no real right or wrong decision, just a different point of view. Each person has a different perception of the cost verses the benefit of doing something.
Besides if all careers are started, in a small town, pretty soon it becomes a large town!

****, Are you a new poster to "the playground"? If so welcome, it is nice to see you!!!!!!!!!!!! Have fun. --An 88 Class Member
HEY.. I'm thinking we need a new "question" submitted. ****
88CM:
Yes.
RT88
How to tell you're not in Wisconsin any more: You see a poster for a 5-year reunion for the local high school (about the same size as Phillips), and it mentions pitching in for a PONY KEG of beer. ~Lizzy
RT88:
Did you attend the Phillips School District, for all the school years: Kindergarten through 12th grade?
--An 88 Class Member
Wow, looks like the reunion was a blast. Thanks for posting the pictures, recognized most of the class. Hope everyone had a good time.
90guy
Thanks a million for the names in the photo.. especially the clue about Jonesy!! Wouldn't have noticed the mooning potential had it not been pointed out!! LOL ********SNO~***********
Good suggestion. However, this web site has to stay under a certain size limit to keep the price down. Since none of the members of this message board pay a subscription fee, it is necessary to keep the size of the site small to keep the cost down. If anyone wants to make donations, feel free. But thank you for the suggestion; we always like to hear those. ~The Web Designer
you should make a clickablr link for the picture that would open up to a larger version.....just a suggestion :-)
The clarity of the photo has been fixed upon resubmission. ~The Web Designer
SNO and ALL: The picture isn't as clear as it could be because the digital picture size had to be reduced.
Wish you could of made it there!! It was a blast!!
Anyways this is who everyone is pictured:
From left to right: Mary Pat Prohaska (standing), Steve Barnett (back row), Lance Heizler (in front of Steve sitting down), Traci Kozey Tregler (in black), Paula Rehbein Haberman, Tammy Wang Svoboda, Brian Janko, Cora Karpinski (sitting behind Brian), Jay Reinke (in yellow), David Yanich (behind Jay), Warren Tews (in front of Jay and David), Mick Theis (in striped shirt), Mark Zaves (in front of Mick sitting), Mike Bader (in red shirt behind Mark Zaves), Dan Kedzerski (standing in back preparing to moon), Mark Surprenant (front row next to Mark Zaves), Colleen Stadter Geurts (behind Mark Surprenant in pink), Brenda Kadlecek Surprenant (behind Colleen in medium blue shirt), Beth Moidl (behind Brenda), Rod Runnheim (in front of Brenda dark shirt), John Kerner (behind Rod), Tracy Cummings (in front of John), Davette Hrabak (in red shirt), and Angel Droese (sitting).

Ok, Help some of us out that can't see the pic very clearly.. who are they?? please give names, from left to right type of thing.. thanks a bunch... sorry i missed it :( ********SNO*****
LIZZY: I agree, but can you imagine what it would be like to plan something like that? And then I would also be missing out on a lot of people that were just a bit younger than me. We just need a Class Reunion Page Reunion.--I will say it until it happens! : ) So, it looks like the 33 year olds still know how to party. I'm glad you all had a great time! --'96QT P.S. MT/TM, yeah, don't worry...I won't let you forget about that prime rib! You could have had it sent home to me tonight!--Just kidding.
Hey...one of these days we should have a PHS "Decade" reunion...maybe '86-'96? If we did just the 80s or just the 90s, we couldn't all be invited! It would be interesting to find out what everybody else I knew in high school was up to these days. ~Lizzy
You did not miss it, it is the 30th Saturday, Harbor View, 3:00, $20.00 per person, Meal at about 5:00, beverages start around 4:00, DJ at 7:00.
hey, just missed the 88 class reunion where do i find news of it?
Yo, yo, yo! I would just like to send out reunion wishes to my fellow board members. Class of '88, have a great time! Enjoy DJ Tony (Night Patrol) and some good conversation and laughs, and I hope the buffet, soda, and beer taste great! : ) I just wonder how late some of you 33 year olds can stay out 'til. : ) Whatever the time, be safe and have fun. Later, '96QT : )
LIZZY:
How about adding to the Perm note, a section that if you wash it immediately it really doesn't help!!!
I get carded ALL the time.. it's crazy.. I even got asked if my daughter was my SISTER... crazy, huh?????LOL... Still SNO'ing out here.. but I'm sorry to say I wont' be able to make the fun & festivities out there for the reunion. Multiple issues at hand right now between family and work, so I expect a full detailed account of the event. For those of you that do go, I'd love pics!!!! 88: can you take some pics for me??? I'm curious to see how everyone is and what everyone is up to.. it's ok to share my contact info too. I've moved through a majority of that stuff I told you about, and I no longer have some of those personal issues. So, I'm ok if others know where I'm at now. I'm having some issues with my email now though, so I have my back up email addy is: Kevin_ws @msn.com
If you want/need to contact me outside of this forum, that's the best route to take until further notice... have a great day and let me know what's up with the events from the reunion. I'm going to try to make it back for Xmas, but not sure how that will work out either. Take care and keep in Touch. *********SNO*********
My advice for my younger self would be to jump on every opportunity and not be so worried about what people might think of you. Take chances. Skydive, go streaking down the block, talk to the hot chick, pants the nearest cop, and have some f***in FUN. This is your only shot at life.
Sorry - was that a little too "Breakfast Club"-ish?? :)
RT88
Hey, 88CM -- that is totally cool about the llamas and dogs! I wonder who was walking whom? Thanks for thinking of me. :) ~Lizzy
LIZZY: Say I thought of you the other day, while cruising through Phillips, on the North end, there were two llamas, being led by two dogs! One Llama was "leashed" to one dog, and the other llama to the other dog. And a lady was walking up ahead of them, and they were just minding their own business following her as nice as can be, she was holding no leashes at all.
--An 88 Class Member
RT88: Nice guess, but not the right one for this particular question/occassion. If I would of known who you were I could have used you as one of the responses!! Cause I think our whole class is rather young yet!! Wouldn't you agree :)Want to give it another whirl?
Also nice to see you are still tuning into the board.
--An 88 Class Member
88CM -
In response to your trivia, I'm going to guess H since I get carded all the time.
RT88
Oh - one more piece of advice to my high school self: DO NOT get that perm one month before your senior pictures! ~Lizzy
Anyway, advice to my high school self: Curfew? Screw curfew. After all, my brother got away with it, and a week of being grounded wouldn't have been any worse than a 10 o'clock curfew, anyway. That 10 o'clock curfew really messed up my social life! It's not like I spent the extra time studying, either. ~Lizzy
Advice I would give myself...hmmm...and what makes you think *I* would have something to say? Oh, wait, I guess I pretty much always have *some*thing to say! lol ~Lizzy
TRIVIA TIME: Who wants to take a guess at this one.
I heard this the other day, I guess one of the people from the Class of 88 looked young enough to get carded. Which 33 year old looked young enough to be carded: A. Shannon Carpenter B. Dan Slowey C. Jay Reinke D. Susan Revie E. Mat Lesneski F. Davette Hrabak G. Brenda Kadlecek Surprenant H. None of the above
--An 88 Class Member
7 DOT--Okay, that makes more sense. Let's see if I can think up any as humorous as yours....
A) Believe most promises from guys B)but not when that promise consists of buying prime rib (Awh, MT/TM, that one was for you!)
A) Ran for a class office position B) because I was going to be taking care of all that class stuff after graduation anyway...Might as well have the title!
Um, I actually can't really think of anything I would have done different in high school, because I liked my experience there. (Maybe care a little less what people thought and be a little more vocal, though I did live that way senior year and it was great!) Since I was happy with it, I don't think I am very good at making these up!--I was just trying right now to liven up the board again. Anyone else?--LIZZY, you MUST have something to say on this topic.
--'96QT
Actually that's "Live BY a"
What piece of advice would I give myself....
Live my a) but be careful of b).
1-a) Beer is not a four letter word 1-b) okay, it is, but not after you drink enough of it.
2-a) Girl's don't have cooties 2-b) some do have mean older brothers though
3-a) 55 is more a speed suggestion than a limit 3-b) unless your driving through Ladysmith
I can usually come up with more than that, I guess I'll need some help!
7Dot
Hey, SNO! Glad to see you are back!
--'96QT
Hey, I've been HI-brrrrrrnating..lol.... ****SNO~****
This is too much fun!--Right now I am going through old e-mails in my '96QT account, and it is really bringing back the memories! MT/TM & St. Pat, you guys need to get back in the swing of things with this message board. And one of St. Pat's e-mails to me said we would need to get together soon for hot sauce cheese and chips....Like when did that happen besides NEVER! I think I need to post some of the trivia that we swapped in our e-mails on this site. And Denali & Sno, where the heck are you two these days? I hope fall brings about so much boredom that you all need to check into the boardroom!
--'96QT : )
Lizzy--You are right, it was not Brian Koslowski. Any other guesses anyone? --'96QT
I don't think Brian Koslowski would have let such a joke go without some smart comment (and is it possible to embarrass him?), so I think that eliminates "D" on both of QT's trivia questions. I'm pretty much at a loss for the others! ~Lizzy
Mrs. Gernaey liked me too (I gotta go with QT on the "looking innocent" advantage)...but as I recall, she hated it when students dressed all in black. ~Lizzy
Ah, Mrs. Gernaey....To this day, I think I am one of the few students who she actually likes, but that is because she never knew I was in on some of the things that went on in that library!--It pays to look innocent! ; ) I remember certain people "helping" a student when he took a make-up math test one day, some students listening to music by cleverly disguising the Walkman and keeping it down low, etc. She never knew!
Here is some library trivia: Mr. Zellinger had his freshman class do some research in the library. A female student called a male student over to her work group, and then measured his hand from his wrist to his middle finger. She told him to leave, she drew the length on the paper, and then she hollered over to him, "Hey, does this look familiar?" as she held up the line she had drawn on the paper. His face turned a bit red, and he acted like he had no clue what that line was in reference to while all the girls shared a laugh.
Trivia 1: Who was the girl? A) Jessica Tom B) Casey Haubert C) Chrissy Pflanz D) Tammi Weinberger E) Jill Lacina
Trivia 2: Who was the guy? A) Martin Helgeson B) Brian Petruzalek C) Melvin Helgeson D) Brian Koslowski E) Bill McCormick
--'96QT : )
Mrs. Gernaey's pet peves, hmm, I remember that she very easily got riled up on things. But I currently am drawing a blank on specifics. I know it didn't take much to get kicked out of the library, or should I say the IMC!!
If you want to make a guess at the trivia go ahead, I tried to work the answers so that about any of them would look like it could be the right answer.
--An 88 Class Member
I will retract my guess, since I wasn't at PMS long enough to know who the librarian was! ~Lizzy
LIZZY: I was referring to PMS, not PHS? Want to keep your guess or guess again?
--An 88 Class Member
And since we're on the subject of librarians -- Who remembers some of Gernaey's pet peeves?!? ~Lizzy
QT - thanks for putting that trivia question out of our misery! We pretty much blew that one.
As for 88's trivia...I have no clue on the librarian's name, since Gernaey was there my entire time. However, I'm going to guess the ferns got her undies in a bundle. ~Lizzy
90guy -- your recollection matches mine; there were some classmates who drove up to Copper Falls on their own. To the best of my knowledge (which may not be so good), it was not anyone on the bus who got caught with the open beer. I'll leave you to drawn your own conclusions...I don't want to name names since I'm not 100% sure. ~Lizzy
Trivia Time Part II: The librarian whom is discussed in question number I, got quite upset once with a bunch of students because:
A. They were doing research, and one of the students grabbed the World Book encyclopedia, and when the rest noticed it was gone they all just stood there not knowing, that other brands of encyclopedia's would also work well for their class projects.
B. All of the students were in such a hurry to get out of the library that they were pushing by the door and knocked over her prized ferns causing dirt to be spilled all over the library floor--several detention slips were handed out for this one.
C. When signing the library cards to check out the books, she discovered people were signing other peoples names to them, thus getting other students in trouble for not returning books that those students never actually checked out.
D. Several students were banned from the library for going to the very far back corner window, and tossing out items of various weights in an effort to "see which item would hit the ground first and which would break apart the most--just a scientific experiment"--the excuse did not fly!
E. None of the above.
--An 88 Class Member
Trivia Time Part I: For a time I think until the middle eighties, (school year and not age), who was the librarian at the PMS: A. Mrs. Knitila B. Kozak/Meyers C. Mrs. Bostrum D. Mrs. McCarville E. None of the above
--An 88 Class Member
Hmmm.. I just read the coffee talk question.. I would have to say the piece of advice I would give myself is "drink less during that darn outing at Sailor Lake before Graduation so you're not late getting there!!" :P ***SNO***
Okay, I'll just provide the final answers to my trivia questions and also update you late '80's & early '90's kids.
After Glynn left in '88, I believe Joppa came in. He was replaced by Scott Johnson, who left with the Class of '94. Heath became Dean of Students and then principal until the "incident." At that time, Silvernail, who was retired from another area but now living here, agreed to take his place until all that was decided for one year, but then stayed for two. Now he is being replaced by yet another new principal....I forget the name right at this moment.
As for the trivia: Scott Johnson had decided on the hat and coat ban during the '93-'94 school year, upsetting the student population. Warren Schoenborn organized a sit-in, which was supposed to take place after B lunch in the senior (orange) hall. I remember him asking me if I was going to be involved. I told him I thought I would, and he told me not to so that I wouldn't get in trouble. My decision was still up in the air just two minutes before the B lunch bell rang, and Mr. Johnson announced on the loudspeaker that the hat and coat ban would not take effect until further study. I guess the staff had gotten word of the sit-in and wasn't looking forward to it. We were all impressed with our combined abilities; of course, the Class of '94 graduated and next year Mr. Heath put that ban into effect at the beginning of the school year in the handbook and nothing more was said.
I'm thinking up another trivia question that I will post in a few days, probably.
--'96QT : )
Hey, didn't some people get in trouble for driving up there as well. Something like they either missed the buss or were banned from the trip but drove up in a car anyways? I think someone like Shelly or Kathy did that. I do remember people getting spotted for open intoxicant and having to leave early. Oh well, yes, it was still fun.
As for the trivia I'll have to guess 97'98 then and Johnson as Principal. Who is that Silvernail person, never heard of them.
90guy
Yeah, the hat and coat thing was nothing more than a guess.
As far as the protest to go on the senior trip, I can't believe I didn't remember that. Was I one of the people involved? I don't really see me heading back to class, but maybe I wasn't feeling good that day. And I was partially correct. I rememberred that we had some rain and there was concern that we might not go. Also the day did end with us going and a good portion of us getting drunk. Who got caught with the beer? I don't remember being interrogated but I got questioned about a lot of stuff, so it may have just been normal procedure for them to question me whether I was actually involved or not. I seem to remember being pissed at someone for getting caught. Well, we were lucky that it was you that were talking with the faculty Lizzy, you were probably one of the few that could give an intelligent argument as to why we should go without saying something stupid. I probably would've got upset back then and told them a few choice things from my extensive vocabulary that would not have been very productive...
'bote
SNO: Glad to see you are back!! I was just thinking the other day where has Sno gone. Yes, we definitely need to get together. Hmm it really has been awhile I figured you must of forgotten how the posting system works?? Just teasing you about the couple blank posts--It happens to the best of us :) :) Anyway glad to see you are back!!
I will be hoping for you to accomplish that "major juggling and disappearing act"!!!!
--An 88 Class Member
Well, I really had lots to say earlier, didn't I?..LOL.. well, I'm hoping to be able to make it back for the reunion. I'm pretty excited about it since I haven't made it to the prior get-togethers. However, I may have some problems getting away at that time. 88, If I can't make it back for the reunion, please give me a full report. And when I do make it back, I will definitely expect to go out to lunch/dinner/drinks w/you and '96 (and whomever else feels like going out too). Got some work I may be tackling right around that same time frame, so I'm hoping to do a major juggling act and pull off a disappearing act. I will let you know if you should expect me or not.. which is why I'm delaying sending in the RSVP... too soon to tell :(
By the way, I was reading the prior comments, what's interesting is that even after the Columbine tragedy, trench coats are not banned out here, nor other coats , but rather gang colors, sports gear, and hats.. go figure, huh???
Have a great day all!! :)
*********SNO*******
Lizzy...You get as many guesses as you need! : ) And you need a couple more! But you are right about Warren....It was him. The school year and principal are still causing a bit of trouble for you, though.
--'96QT : )
Okay, I'm going with Warren Schoenborn on the hats-n-coats...by process of elimination. I think I met Warren when he was a young'un, but I have no idea how much behind us he would have been in school. Don't think he was in high school when we were, so it would have to be 95 or later. And I'm still sticking with Heath! ~Lizzy PS: How many guesses do I get? lol
Oh, I forgot to tell how our senior picnic day ended! After getting a late start, we also had an early finish. One of our classmates was spotted by some other visitors to the park with a very open, very visible can of beer. We were all told to pack everything up and were rounded up on the bus to wait while they ran a few interrogations before we headed home. It was still a damn good time, though -- I'm amazed we only got caught with beer! ~Lizzy90
Nice try, Lizzy, but no, 90Guy, it was not Butch in '91 against Joppa or Heath.--Good thinking about the Columbine stuff, though....Apparently Phillips High was being proactive! Do you guys just want me to tell you the answers or is someone going to guess again? And yes, Lizzy, I do have knowledge beyond my years! I could probably give at least a little trivia anywhere from the '80's until now.
--'96QT
'96 QT I guessed the later years as well because of the Columbine insident, although that didn't even happen yet. Man I suck at the Phillips High trivia, can't believe I didn't even know the one about my own class, guess the memory is a little foggier then I thought, but I do remember it being rainy and some of it no
