Lizzy: I was told it was Ms. Welsh, if that is true.

In the Class of '96, who was Mr. Claus and came onto the auditorium stage saying to the audience, "Everybody say, 'Ho, ho, ho!'" rapper-style! A. Bowie Retzlaff B. Mike Johnson C. Jason Rolling D. Steve Zellinger

Here's a trivia question in honor of the Holiday season, courtesy of Lizzy...What was one of the most popular gifts from Mr. & Mrs. Claus at PHS in the late 80's? A) mini-wreaths for locker deodorizing B) PHS t-shirts C) nose plugs for swim class D) rulers for measuring the height of bangs E) extra ice cream bars on movie day

Hey QT...who was the Spanish teacher that left? I'm thinking I must have lost track of who it was...because none of the ones I remember (and I remember more than one from "after my time") would have flipped out that badly. At least...I don't think so! ~Lizzy

Sure, there are many birthdays in December, but...Never question how '96QT knows what she knows! : ) Actually, my Informant, Simon, once told me about a person who was invited to this board but only browses it...and that person's birthday is in December. I wanted to be nice and wish that person a happy day! Are you that person? --'96QT

Okay, I will answer the Question of the Week, since no one else is! I am looking forward to taking in a game of basketball, though it is difficult to forecast whether or not I will get that prime rib. : ) I know I was offered it last January, but was too full then. You know, MT/TM, I won't hold you to it, but it has been fun holding it over your head for the past year!

Happy birthday to a non-posting member of the message board. I know it is some time in December here.

New Year's is looking to be fun! Happy holidays, Everyone!

LIZZY and RT88: Excellent memories there, yes the answer to Room Trivia part III was B. Keep up the good work all.

RT88: Pretty evasive there in the response!! But that is okay, yep guessing is half the fun here. Keeps things more interesting.

MT/TM: Thanks for the e-mail. Sorry to hear about what you wrote about. Was it a student?--An on-purpose or accident type of thing? How awful. Anyway, if you drift back here one of these days, I am sure you will see this...otherwise, maybe we'll all bump into each other somewhere over the holidays. Take care.

RT88: You are right...half of the fun of this site is not knowing who everyone is. The other half of the fun is figuring out who everyone is! Can you at least tell us if you are male or female?--That really doesn't give much info but is just nice to know.

LIZZY: The "great minds" at PHS told me that the correct answer to my trivia question is "A." Supposedly, one day the Spanish teacher got upset, told the kids they were all brats, went to the office, and left...forever. Mr. Heath had to come down to watch the class for the rest of the hour/day. Since no current district teachers knew Spanish, they found one that knew German, and all the Spanish classes (even Spanish 3), became German 1. Crazy; huh?

I'll also say B for TTIII.

88CM - I'd have to travel less than a day for a 15th. I won't say by plane or car or space shuttle, since I don't want anyone to find out who the hell I am. Isn't that all part of the fun?? :)

As for the foreign language trivia...my understanding of the politics of that situation was that they had trouble finding a Spanish teacher. Somehow, though, they located a willing teacher of German instead. Knowing the schoolboard, though, it wouldn't surprise me if "D" was correct. And "A" actually happened to my nephew, but it was his German teacher who flaked.

For Trivia Time III, I'd guess B. You threw me off by starting from different rooms...and you skipped my homeroom! (Which is understandable considering it was the LD room and the teacher changed three times in my four years) ~Lizzy '90

TRIVIA: Spanish is no longer offered at Phillips High; it has been replaced by German. What is the reason for this?

A. The then current Spanish teacher could not handle the stress of the students and one day decided to leave in the middle of class and quit on the spot.

B. The then current Spanish teacher was poisoned during Espanol Cooking Day. Bad Guacamole dip!

C. The Spanish were offended by the high schoolers poor pronunciation of their language, and petitioned the school to get rid of the class at once.

D. The high school decided that since we have more students of German descent than Spanish descent, German should be offered instead.

E. The then current Spanish teacher had an affair with a high school boy, Juan, and they had to run away when their love child, Juanita, was born.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. --'96QT : )

TRIVIA TIME PART III (Room trivia with a twist): Okay lets try this one:

As you walked around the inner block in "Class of 88's four year high school experience", the rooms were in the following order (the list may skip a room now and then but after allowing for skips which of the following is in the correct order):

A. Zellinger, French, Lightner, Mrs. V, Library, Giese, Wirth, French, Peterson B. Library, Mrs. V., Wirth, Nelson, Peterson, French, Zellinger, Lightner, Giese C. Wirth, Nelson, Peterson, French, Hein, Zellinger, Giese, Library or D. None of the above

88CM: How embarrassing is this?? I went back and re-read that question--for some reason I had read it as tables not desks, so I had confused myself (I think it may be the meds). But you're right, I DID have GEO w/Mrs. Roberts. WOW!!

I got your email re: your snail mail addy--I had spinal surgery so it's hard for me to do the puter or writing thing for long periods of time... but your letter is a work in progress!!

OK, bring on the trivia!! I'm ready for it...I'm even trying to think of something--I think I'm repressing all of my memories from then.. ha ha..

DENALI~ GOOD LUCK on your move.. I know you probably won't get this for awhile since you're packed up & traveling..but if you get the opportunity to peek in on this, just know others are thinking of you & hoping your travels go well, and you find yourself safely at your destination. Wow! A little activity back here again! Woo-hoo!!

Sno: Hope the recovery from surgery is going well.

Butler: Glad to see you are here and never gone. Did you hear anything about the saucy notes Hot-Tea & I wrote your bro a few weeks ago? Maybe he doesn't even remember, but he did keep the evidence. Hopefully he remembered to clean out his pockets...or hopefully he does his own laundry. So funny, we were!

Avery: If you are still here, I was wondering if you every carved your name into a teacher's desk/table, which would now reside in the middle school? It's an OLD desk, so it could be from way back in the '80's! If so, your engraving work is still alive.

To see if you know Jack, check out this site, too: http://home.pacbell.net/diana_do/knowjack.htm

Classroom Trivia: The room that is now controlled by Mr. Zeman used to be: A. Mr. Jasurda's B. Mr. Wirth's C. Mr. Nelson's D. Mrs. Laurila's E. A & C F. A & D

BUTLER: Great work! Yes the answer is D. Mrs. Roberts. Yep of those choices hers was the only one with a window. Here I thought the thought provoking extra credit question on the bulletin board was going to be the give away!

Good to know you are still here, even if not always posting.

Looks like the trivia seems to get some action on this board. I suppose I will have to keep trying to come up with questions. It isn't always real easy though. I think of one like the ones on the rooms and then have trouble remembering every room, in order to give accurate choices!! It has been almost 15 years ya know.

88CM: Still working on your email-had surgery & having some difficulties still. I'm aiming to get it out this year! The COUNTDOWN is ON!! OR I could MAIL it (that would be a SHOCK, wouldn't it??? ) YOu need to email me your addy then.

MORE TRIVIA: One more trivia question on rooms. Okay this room had two chalk boards, desks not tables, a bulletin board that at times carried a thought provoking extra credit question, and at least one window; Whose room was it? A. Mr. Wirth's (History/Law Related room) B. Ms. Giese/Mrs. Foytek's (Math room) C. Mrs. V's (Spanish and English room) D. Mrs. Roberts (Math) or E. None of the above.

5. You wanted to be on Star Search.

4. You had big hair and wore fluorescent-colored clothes.

3. You wouldn't leave the house without your Swatch.

Well, when I wasn't looking for the forward, I found it, so here it is!...--'96QT

Subject: George Carlin's view on aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids?

If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions."How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead. "How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16!

And then the greatest day of your life . . . you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . .YOU BECOME 21. . .YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk. He TURNED, we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40.

Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 . . . and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime.

And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards, "I was JUST 92." Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!! : )

This room had tables, not desks, it had at least two black boards, there was normally a pet in the room, was it: A. Mrs. Giese/Foytek's room B. Mrs. Anderson's room (art room) C. Mr. Chinock's room, D. Mr. Hein's room, E. Mr. Heath's Room or F. None of the above.

Hmm, Well if I were locked inside Disney World it would have happened due to an intricately layed plan in order to obtain that very thing, which in and of itself was no easy feat: The first couple hours and periodically later, would be spent dodging the security and cleanup staff. Imagine that, the whole theme park to one's own self. It would be magnificent, no lines, no waiting. After hours of nonstop fun in the Haunted Mansion, on Peter Pan's Flight, in Pirates of the Caribbean, and on Cinderella's Carousel it would be time to hot wire a Monorail for a rip roaring drive (I always wondered just how fast they could go) over to Epcot, and then to MGM studios for a ride on the Great Movie Ride before heading back to the Magic Kingdom itself, just long enough to snatch a pirate ship from the Pirates of the Caribbean and row away before sunrise through the Seven Seas Lagoon, relaxing periodically as the waves rocked the ship, as the Castle's image burned into my mind as I slowly glided back to reality.

Yep, score of 6 to zero. They didn't even score that until the last few minutes of the last quarter. At least we get to keep the eagle in our trophy case this year.--Someone in Fifield carved an eagle that Park Falls and Phillips will compete for every year....That sort of adds an interesting element to the rivalry. The floats were all very nice this year, even the freshmen float, which is historically no good. The seniors had a bit of an '80's theme when they played "We're not gonna take it anymore" on their float.

Denali & Sno, you two are comical! Are you both finally going to confess to one another who you are? I know you have both written to me asking who the other one is, but then when I say, "You have to let me tell that person who you are then," the whole deal gets scrapped! I think some people enjoy the mystery; I, however, like to know who I am talking with!

I'm not sure where some of our normal web page guests have went to, but let's just hope they come back so this page doesn't die. I keep thinking I could invite some of my friends, but as I have said before, I like coming here as the lone "little kid" to play with the "big kids" on the "upper playground."

Night everyone. --'96QT

Be careful & have a great trip...I haven't been to P-town for a while, maybe if we have a reunion next summer I'll try. Where you moving to??? And you're right, these days are better than THOSE OLDEN DAYS, I dont' have to sneak, lie or worry about getting caught past my curfew & getting my A## reamed for it. My GOD, it's great to be a growed-up!! (Denali, email me directly if you'd like to reveal,.. kinda like you show me yours, I'll show you mine..LOL.. silly, huh???)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! I'll be out of the area for a bit so thought I'd throw this out now..

88, I will write to you soon. Been out & about, and will be out for a bit again. But I WILL write to you soon.. swear it!1 96~ I did find the addy I was looking for.. 'preciate the call to assist me though... SNO~~~

Hey, what's going on? are you guys frozen already or what? Sorry, I know I haven't been on here for awhile either. Anyways, what's new? We'll be in Philly area on Nov 1-11, just a quick visit before "the big move." Who knows when that will actually be though.

Looking back at high school years, yes, I think I'd let my children date someone like me, their father on the other hand...no way!! haha!! I'd just hope they'd take what we're teaching them now and listen!! Like Sno, (I still can't figure out who you are, you know me though, right??) we're giving them a different life!! A little of both worlds~~ Life is too short not to have fun and enjoy!!

I know we'll be in Phillips on Nov 2, for an early turkey day at the older sis-in-laws, but after that it'll be hit or miss. Maybe a night out?? I don't even know where to go anymore!!!!!! Let me know if anyone will be around that evening, and maybe we could "sneak" out like the olden days!! (Just have to make sure Grandma can watch the kids) OK, it's not at all like then!! :-) It's better! Take care, Denali

WOW!! This question is far tougher than the fruit one for petey's sake.... I KNOW what I was like growing up, and WHY!! I believe that I've given my child a better homelife already to give her a better foundation for decisions, values, morals, standards, etc. I don't feel that there will be the same need to "REBEL" & there is open communication already.. not like my homelife wasaqT. SO, If there is someone that is of interest I will let my child make their own decisions, but be there for support, guidance, and definitely a shoulder to cry on if needed.. WOW!! How'd you like that one?? Sounded just like out of one of those parenting books, huh??? HA HA Sno~~

Tuesday, October 01, 2002
09:51:10 PM

Yes, definitely an easier coffee talk question.

If I had a child that wanted to go out with someone whom was like I was then, the answer would be yes to date, if they were each of the correct age to be dating.

Marriage well yes they would be considered to be Very Good marriage material.

However, I think they should have a few years of being single first, learning how to live and handle life, then commitment would be an extremely good thing.

But, that doesn't necessarily mean marriage. As Marriage contains a whole bunch of other issues which would need to be considered, separate from the being with the person for the rest of your life part of it, as that you can have without the piece of paper, but that is a whole other topic!!

Fulfilled. Satisfied. Satiated. I can still taste the juices. Okay, I could go on, but I need to suppress the banana-side of my personality a bit! Obviously, what I am talking about is that I had a prime rib dinner tonight. Nothing can describe that first bite of prime rib smothered in au jus sauce. Yummy!

Now here is the talk of all Coffee Talk questions! Everyone better answer this one...It could get interesting. My answer would be a simple "yes," because I was an angel....My halo didn't get a bit crooked until after high school, mostly. Even now I am a good girl. : )

Ok, so according to the FRUIT QUIZ, I'm a banana... Hmmmm.. the produce section failed me. HA HA!! Thanks QT, I wouldn't have come up with that on my own without your link.. :) To spare others from turning to jelly or sauce from racking their brains, maybe we need to change the question????? SNO~

'96-HOT-TEA is the only person who has answered the fruit question. I am afraid the guys can't get past the word "fruit" in the question, and the girls might be afraid to admit they are a "cherry" or something, for fear it will be interpreted wrong! I know SNO was browsing the produce aisle, and 88CM needs help identifying a fruit vs. a vegetable...Ha, ha, remember you love me! Anyway, a friend gave me a web site that just might help us all out. In seven multiple choice questions, a quiz will tell you which of about six fruit you are! I took the quiz, (and due to my exact answers not being listed on all the questions), I took the quiz twice and am two different pieces of fruit: Banana--You are funny and never let anything get in the way of a joke. You make your friends laugh. Your natural enemy is a lemon. Strawberry--You are caring and romantic. You are loyal to your friends. Your friends can trust you. You are well-loved. Both of those descriptions do fit me. I guess that makes me Minute Maid's Banana Strawberry fruit juice or a smoothie or something! Here's the link, if anyone is still unaware of their true fruitfulness! http://www.webkin.co.uk/poll/fruit_quiz.html

MT/TM: Cocky, cocky, cocky, "thank you very much!" No, good recall on those trivia questions. Do you see that the prime rib clock is now in double digits? : ) I will be warming up my taste buds with a nice prime rib dinner in a few days, actually. I hope life is treating you well.

TRIVIA TIME (BONUS QUESTION):

In the trivia questions listed below (parts I and II) there is a guidance counselor mentioned, what was the guidance counselor's name then?

I only remember the event and the answer to the Part I and Part II questions, but for the life of me I don't remember the Lady counselor's name. I do think it was a unique sir name though.

Anyone?

TRIVIA TIME PART II:

After we gave her our written directions she:

A. Literally took our words and made the item in the EXACT way that we described in our directions.

B. Had each of us come up to the front of the class and demonstrate one of our classmates set of directions EXACTLY.

C. NEVER did a thing with it.

D. GRADED us on our work

TRIVIA TIME PART I:

When we were in the fifth or sixth grade one of the guidance counselors came to our classes and tried to teach us how important it was for us to give proper instructions--to say what we mean and to mean what we say. This was demonstrated by having us write directions on how to:

A. Fold a paper airplane B. Make a Peanut Butter sandwich C. Fold a book cover D. Make a basket or E. None of the above

I don't think it is safe to pick on either blondes or men on here, and please don't pick on blonde men! ; ) Shoot, I do have a joke, though, from way back when, that would really fit in here. I don't know if I have posted it before. It comes from the early 90's. "Why is a blonde's belly button sometimes red & swollen?" "Because there are blonde guys, too!" --'96QT, (suffering from a cold...dang kids!) : )

IT'S "LET'S PICK ON MEN INSTEAD OF BLONDES" TIME . .

1. What do you call a handcuffed man? Trustworthy.

2. What does it mean when a man is in your bed gasping for breath and calling your name? You didn't hold the pillow down long enough.

3. Why do only 10% of men make it to heaven? Because if they all went, it would be Hell.

4. Why do men like smart women? Opposites attract.

5. How are husbands like lawn mowers? They're hard to get started, they emit noxious odors, and half the time they don't work.

6. How do men define a "50/50" relationship? We cook-they eat; we clean-they dirty; we iron-they wrinkle.

7. How do men exercise on the beach? By sucking in their stomachs every time they see a bikini.

8. How do you get a man to stop biting his nails? Make him wear shoes.

9. How does a man show he's planning for the future? He buys two cases of beer instead of one.

10. How many men does it take to screw in a light bulb? ONE .........He just holds it up there and waits for the world to revolve around him.

11. What did God say after creating man? I can do so much better.

12. What's a man's idea of honesty in a relationship? Telling you his real name.

13. What's the best way to force a man to do sit ups? Put the remote control between his toes.

14. What's the smartest thing a man can say? "My wife says..."

15. Why are all dumb blonde jokes one liners? So men can understand them.

16. Why did God create man before woman? Because you're always supposed to have a rough draft before creating your masterpiece.

17. Why do female black widow spiders kill the males after mating? To stop the snoring before it starts.

18. Why do jocks play on artificial turf? To keep them from grazing.

19. Why do men need instant replay on TV sports? Because after 30 seconds they forget what happened.

20. Why does it take 100 million sperm to fertilize one egg? Because not one will stop and ask for directions.

21. Why is psychoanalysis a lot quicker for men than for women? When it's time to go back to his childhood, he's already there.

Hey 88.. wasn't sure if they were skipping to 20 yrs or what.. out here they don't do a 15 yr, so when it was mentioned I was surprised.. If you find out, you must let me know ASAP so I can be sure to plan my escape early enough to insure my safe arrival there. I am really kind of excited at the prospect of seeing all those I haven't seen in OH MY GOSH, 15 YEARS!! It's insane to think about, isn't it????

QT~ I never assume on here that the "anon" comments may be from the prior poster.. we've all learned that may not hold true.. right??? Hope the BDAY outing was FAB!!

HOT TEA~ Happy Belated too, by the way.

As to the fruity answer.. I found myself wandering aimlessly up & down the produce dept. the other day "searching for myself",.. but alas, no answer.. I STILL do not know what kind of fruit I am.. I even asked someone that worked there..but only got this really ODD look, which could mean either "wow, you're something else" or "damn, leave me alone, you freak".. so, I need an extension on the answering of that question... (I'll get back with it soon.) Sno~

SNO: I posted the joke...Glad you enjoyed it. I didn't sign it because I had just posted a message, and I thought everyone would realize it was from me...Next time I'll try to remember to sign the jokes, too! : )

I had a few interesting dreams last night. One of those dreams has a connection to the board, so I will share: I think that since St. Pat hasn't been to the board lately, I had this dream. I dreamt that Channel 13 had a broadcast on that he died in a car accident. (Sorry, St. Pat...But it was just a nightmare...not a premonition or anything!) Anyway, I was crying to 88CM how I would never get e-mails or read posts from him again, and I wouldn't be able to send him a birthday message. And since he died, the board was now dead! A few days later we are all sitting in Mr. Jasurda's class.--Why, I do not know. (I think it was Mr. Nelson's class when you 80's kids were there.) Anyway, along the far edge by the wall was St. Pat in the back chair, in front of him was MT/TM, and in front of him was Avery. Avery was standing up combing his newly feathered hair! In the row next to St. Pat was 88CM, and I was kiddy-corner from 88CM. I leaned over and said, "Look, is that St. Pat?" 88CM told me it was, and I was so happy that he wasn't dead and the message board was saved. (See, St. Pat...I really didn't kill you off!) Someone needs to tell St. Pat to get back over here and post before my dreams get any wackier.

Tonight is the night to party. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO '96 HOT-TEA! : )

Joke of the Day: A father and son went hunting together for the first time. The father said, "Stay here and be very QUIET. I'll be across the field."

A few minutes later, the father heard a blood curdling scream and ran back to his son. "What's wrong?" the father asked. "I told you to be quiet."

The son answered, "Look, I was quiet when the snake slithered across my feet. I was quiet when the bear breathed down my neck. I didn't move a muscle when the skunk climbed over my shoulder. I closed my eyes and held my breath when the wasp stung me. I didn't cough when I swallowed the gnat. I didn't cuss or scratch when the poison oak started itching. But when the two chipmunks crawled up my pant legs and said, 'Should we eat them here or take them with us?' Well, I guess I just panicked, . . ."

AVERY!!--Glad to see you are back! The mechanical bull was just at Harbor View for one night...thank goodness! It was there because the rodeo was in town due to the fair. I think that all of you guys should come back to Phillips to have a night on the town in total '80's gear. : )

96QT-I think the 80s are coming back in to vogue. Did you see Nikki McKibbin or Ryan Star?, talk about '80s fashion! I'm going to start wearing stone washed jeans and unlaced nike shoes with the tongue hanging out. May even grow my hair out so that I can part it in the middle and feather it back(yes I still have enough to do this).

Mechanical bull at Harbor? Now this I've got to see. How very Urban Cowboy (so early '80s that its pretty much late '70s). Thats about right, something that was part of the pop culture 20 some years ago has finally hit Phillips.

I don't remember bull-riding "back in the day" either. Hmmm... maybe I just didn't fully appreciate the small town offerings.. nah, it was just that I didn't pay much attention. Now that I'm out here, I often find myself wondering about the little towns out there now.. weird, huh??

Oh by the way, 88; not likely an escape will be able to be fit in the rest of this year. Maybe next summer.. Are we having a reunion this coming year though?? If so, I may just have to fit that in to my schedule then...

Hey, when are we getting a new question for the coffee talk???? I need a new thought-provoking question thrown at me. Sno~

Yes, 88CM, fall is approaching and so is the new school year at Phillips High Alumni. So where is everyone?

'96 Hot-Tea & I will be out celebrating her 25th on Saturday night. First stop will be at Harbor at 9:30-ish. After we are there for awhile we will continue the night at Miller Time, (yes, there will supposedly be a DJ!)...If anyone wants to join us, that would be great. If anyone wants to avoid us, you know where NOT to hang out that night! : )

88CM, I will be nice and forgo the comment about you all aging. Remember I am quickly approaching the quarter-of-a-century mark! ; )

Denali, I think that the bull riding event could have happened in the '80's. It seems like that decade is quickly being re-visited. I see kids walking around with strange colored hair, and just the other day I saw an ad for Chuck Taylors...! Yikes!

Okay I have wondered about this for some time...Does anyone know what exactly "Euphusu" means? Was it derived from a phrase or word in another language, a made up name for the group by the group member, or what?

Also pertaining to the local News listing on the popcorn wagon--It has been sold, and the lot on which it was parked has been sold as well. That is all I know on that topic, I guess we will have to just wait and see what may spring up on the empty lot!

Avery: Remember how months ago you wrote about the classy scene that was going to be at Miller Time with the frozen/wet t-shirt contest? Well, such "class" has now been brought to Harbor when a lot of the girls (none from Phillips) were asked to show some skin to win when they rode the mechanical bull at Harbor. Yeah, really classy.

Otherwise, Euphusu was GREAT! The drummer, along with all the band members, did a fine job. The fair was also fun.

Anyone want to hold our Reunion Page Reunion on September 14th? I think Hot-Tea and I will be out that night. Just a suggestion.

Spoken like a true older sibling, close friend, or Euphusu drummer! Yeah, I've heard of Euphusu...That is why I mentioned it on here the other day. My question is, when you say the drummer "used to play with Nirvana," I think it is more like the drummer "used to drum to Nirvana songs while listening to his Nirvana CDs," but hey, that's close enough. After a stop at the fair tomorrow night, we'll be making our appearance at Harbor to party with the Nirvana-esque drummer. The mechanical bull should make for an interesting night. Any cowboys gonna be there? Either way, it should be a good time. --'96QT

'96~ Thanks a bunch. 'preciate it lots. Someday I'll get back there & we'll have to get together & have a "cold one" since you seem to be well connected with the "hot spots" in town. I know I'll never make it back for an unofficial reunion of sorts; but when I do make it back, I think a night out would be fun. Somehow the thought of coming back there makes me want to drink. Must be all those nights at "the dam", Solberg Lake, or the gravel pits coming back to haunt me. Now that I'm "legal" I'd rather have a bar stool instead of a "shorty" in the back of the school bus (it's true that drinking beer through a straw goes straight to your head)HA HA!!

Rough weekend, MANDARK?--I see you spelled your codename wrong. Oh, I am just giving you a rough time; I know it was a typo. Thanks for the POSITIVE posting! : )

I had a great weekend AGAIN! I will probably be so bored when the summer is over, because I have been so busy these days that I don't know how the winter months will be able to keep up with all this. Guess what, MT/TM?--I just might score myself a prime rib dinner this week, if all goes well. Don't worry, there will be plenty of room for another one come January!

As for the Coffee Talk ?, I LOVE Phillips. "Life in a Northern Town" has been excellent. I guess there are a few things that I miss, such as a more diverse group of friends and more things to do. But growing up in Phillips makes a person get creative, and creative can be a lot of fun! I don't think that always having a place to go is all that it is cracked up to be, because the big city kids get sick of going to those places just as much as we would get tired of what we had/have to do in Phillips. Also, I definitely like that we were not "just another number." Everyone knew everyone, and that was ALMOST always cool. : ) --'96QT

Sunday, July 21, 2002
01:40:59 PM

Another question of the week... I am glad that I grew up in Phillips, would not of wanted to grow up in a larger city. Phillips was a nice size, it allowed us to actually have classes with every member of our class (only a couple exceptions), thus getting to know everyone in some manner. You had the small town atmosphere, yet could go to other places to experience the larger city atmosphere, thus being able to appreciate aspects both.

Appreciation of the cleverness or at times uncleverness of the pranks and activities that occurred could be thoroughly understood by all in school--as eveyone "knew" everyone.

Phillips was/is a good place, (although not perfect it does have its points) where else then in a small town can one experience the trustworthiness that is disappearing in many areas--The Bee left on the counter unattended, just drop in the right amount or even make your own change, take a paper and go. The person in the country selling vegetables, leaves them unattended with a little bucket to add up the cost take the right amount and leave. '88--nice work. It was one of the funniest scenes in my four years of high school. You really had to be there. Rachel was pulling the gum out of her mouth, literally like 2 feet from Mr. C's head as he "lectured" the class on the disrespect of chewing gum in class. I have no idea how he could not see her doing it. Classic.

You know, the "bee" question could be considered related to Phillips...since The Bee is the local <ahemcoughgasp> news chronicle. I'll admit it's a stretch, but the answer, nonetheless, is phillipian. (gotta love English, the truly living language!) ~Lizzy

Speaking of smiling, where is SMILES? SNO, I also know what song '88CM is referring to! : )

As for our mini-reunion, guess what? I just got booked up for next weekend, (July 20th), as well. We really need to pick a date later in August or something. Otherwise, I guess July 27th would work, but then that would mean I was out every weekend in July, and that is almost too much! After having a fun time with a few people three years younger than us last night, Hot-Tea & I have decided we are getting too old. Okay, not quite, but WOW! It was fun, though. Unfortunately our bartender at Bar # 1 was quite red from sunburn and losing his mind from exhaustion and other "elements!" : )

MANDARK: Since I was not in your science class, I am only able to make a guess at your trivia question--is the correct answer C?

SNO: A few nights ago I was watching VH1 and part of the countdown to the 100 best "one hit wonders" and I think you would be interested in knowing that number 2 or 3 on the list would have brought a large smile to your face. (If you are confused by this, let me know and I will explain better in one of our e-mails)

MANDARK: My schedule is wide open for the mini-reunion, as well. EXCEPT, I could not go out on August 3rd, most likely, but all other weekends look good. Just tell me when and I will be there! Someone just needs to set a date already and tell the others on here! --'96QT

Avery, MT/TM, St. Pat, and whoever else I saw the other week in Merrill. Too bad everyone had to bail so early...I guess the old days are truly behind us when we start leaving parties at 9 p.m. to get the kids tucked in. Still great seeing everyone.

When is the Phillips mini-reunion that we discussed? My calendar is wide open for the rest of the summer.

By the way, still haven't seen an answer to the trivia question below...

I remember watching the "original" Downburst from Westboro (visiting family there, before my folks moved to Phillips)...the sky was that awful greenish-black to the north of us. Westboro pretty much got a run-of-the-mill thunderstorm...but it did blow our plates and things off the picnic table. ~Lizzy

Hey! I didn't expect to see you back quite yet, St. Pat! It is unreal to hear some of the antics you guys used to pull! It reminds me of my friend who, when a group of us were walking downtown one day, wanted to change the "o" to a "u" on the Timber Inn sign which reads, "Free Cont. Breakfast." You young guys have some real imaginative minds!

Anyway, I have had a fun July so far. Went out Thursday and Friday night; had a blast. Have had guests over....one of which was my cousin...the one who got a little too friendly with the toad in the Concrete Park! Anyway, next Saturday will be more of the same...only better, probably. And the weather has been excellent!

St. Pat is back again. My favorite fourth of July memory would probably be hanging out with a couple other "posters" here on the mean streets of Phillips and taking the "O" out of Price County Telephone Company. You do the math to figure out which "O" we dropped into Lake Duroy. Afterward, I do believe the aforementioned scoundrels went to Kennan to celebrate the fourth of July there. Now that's livin'!

Welcome, 'Nonymous....Thanks for finally choosing a codename! : ) I remember curling up in a fetal position during the Downburst...Okay, I guess I don't remember that! But since my mom was pregnant with me at the time, and she survived the storm, I survived it, too. Hey, it counts!! My most recent 4th of July memory is of the Look Around Boys challenge and the runners being sighted! Otherwise, I just have fun hanging out in town with friends and family. It looks like this 4th will be extra fun! I hope to see some of you out and about! Wherever you all are, have fun and be safe! --'96QT ; )

Memories of Downburst....how about downburst itself (THE STORM). I remember sitting in the living room looking out the window while lightening was striking and the wind was blowing over various and sundry farm implements. Mandark: Yes, this is the Discovery Channel! Imagine, playing in the background, "You & me, baby, ain't nothin' but mammals, so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel," just for effect. Good answer, and you are probably correct, but I was looking for the BEE! I guess that the bee lays eggs, and the ones that get fertilized are females, but the ones that the male does not fertilize are males....Therefore, those eggs are born as male bees...so male bees don't have fathers!

As, for PMS trivia, they changed it a few years ago to PhMS (for all you obnoxious males). : )

Take care, Everyone. --'96QT ; )

Randon post-er: I never used the name Mandark in high school, or anywhere for that matter. I only use the name on this site because people here lose their minds if you don't post with a code name.

Female Gall-making wasps do not mate before laying their eggs. Therefore, the eggs when hatched truly do not have "fathers". Now enough of the damn bugs...what is this, the Discovery Channel?!? From this point forward, let's keep the trivia about Phillips, PHS, PMS (that's "Phillips Middle School" for all you menstruating females), PES, or the "twin cities" (Kennan & Catawba).

Here's some trivia for you:

In Mr. Chinnock's freshman science class, what was Rachel Whitton doing as Mr. Chinnock was using her desk to write a detention slip for Jeff Anderson's gum chewing in class:

A) Giving Mr. C "rabbit ears" behind his back.

B) Laughing uncontrollably.

C) Pulling and stretching the gum she had in her mouth.

D) Slowly removing her blouse (OK, it wasn't this one, but I couldn't resist the visual)

Anyone out there able to translate into Latin...or have connections to someone (like an old seminarian?) who can?!? MANDARK: Nice to see you are back. This site has been like the stock market again lately...Heating up and then falling like mad. Anyway, the insect guess is incorrect. Here is a clue: Since these insects do not have any sexual activity, you are probably glad you are not one of them! : ) See, the insect you speak of actually has a father, but it dies right away. The insect in my question does NOT have a father, dead or alive. Tricky; huh?! I bet Freud would be sad that you did not choose a zucchini as your vegetable representative. I think I will need a panel to help me pick the "Post of the Month" each month. Any volunteers? And can I choose my own to have posted?--You have to admit that some of my postings are exceptional! ; ) Anyway, good suggestion. Another good suggestion was that we should all get together, except I am not too sure about the idea of jumping in the lake. Are we having a summer PHS reunion page reunion or are we just going to talk about it for another year and never do it? Any thoughts on that one? --'96QT

Insect: Praying Mantis--the female eats the male right after she fucks his brains out and he shoots his little insect load.

Vegetable: I think I would be a cucumber...paging Dr. Freud...

Trivia: I think the answer is "B"

General Comment: This site is heating up!! The summer is here!! Let's all get drunk and naked and jump in Long Lake at midnight...oh wait, I already did that...

--Mandark

p.s. I think we should start something new called "Post of the Month", to be chosen by our favorite PHS cyber-geek, QT'96. The honor should go to the funniest, most unique, or weirdest comment of the month. Any thoughts?

TRIVIA TIME:

How did Mrs. Kielsmeier aim to determine who threw an egg at the wall during one of the English classes that she was teaching?

A. She threatened the class with having to write a 20 page paper about the lifecycle of a chicken, conception to adulthood.

B. She had everyone write a page to be graded pertaining to the prior days events--hoping someone would nark on the egg thrower.

C. She gave the entire class detention, and F's for the day.

D. She was too overwhelmed to do anything but hold her head in her hands and cry.

I'd stay in Phillips. I'd work with Avery at the Stoney Pub - it would be like the campy 80s flick, "The Three Amigos." I have no problem with not being a professional anymore while moving back to Phillips. To quote Caddyshack, "The world needs ditchdiggers, too, you know." Wednesday, May 29, 2002 - 07:09:52 PM

WARNING: Never go on a road trip with Simon. If you refuse to take my advice, your appendage might get slammed in a sliding minivan door, much like what happened to my appendage (finger) today. What really sucked was that the door was locked, and I had to wait for it to be unlocked before we could open the door and remove my finger...which, luckily, was still attached to my body! OUCH! The middle part of my finger was dented in and it is black and blue, but not too bad anymore...I didn't even break a nail! : ) Actually, it wasn't Simon's fault. It was an accident on both our parts...mixed with my handful of stupidity. I am just learning how to hunt and peck and mouse with my left hand. I think I need a good attorney!

What was amazing was that Simon did not censor my sub posting! For that, all is forgiven!

Hey! Anyone want some hot sauce on that sub?! ; )

We never had any hot subs when I was in school, either...Except for many of the girls taking a liking to Mr. Weber in 7th grade when he subbed. High school brought about "hot" teachers like Schillinger and Bobby Dural.--He would always sit on the counter at the front of the room, swing his feet, and blush at almost anything! The girls ate that up. Heath looked okay, but was already getting too old. I know the '80's girls didn't have anything to look at...in regard to the teachers, anyway.

Speaking of the theater, I just got back from "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones."--Oh, the things I do for those I love! It was okay, but the battle scenes were too long. I did enjoy Anakin a bit and Yoda is always a favorite of mine. When I was little, I remember liking the Ewoks, but of course, they aren't in this episode. Anyone else see it?

SNO: You sure have a good memory, how in the world did you remember Ms. Neumann's first name??? Amazing!!!

AVERY: Yes, Ms. Neumann was filling in for Mrs. McCarville (I think formerly Miss Robely (not sure if I spelled that right)). It was for our 8th grade year, but she took over classes for the 7th and 8th grade. I think she was there the whole year. I don't know if Mrs. McCarville ever came back after her leave? I don't think she did. In fact I think Ms. Neumann was only there that one year anyway. Perhaps all you guys' hormonal antics were just too hot for her to handle????? ; )

MT/TM, 87, SOMEBODY, ANYBODY: On another topic does anyone have any idea what size the screen is in feet at the "beloved" show house in Philly?

Rumor has it that little boys start liking subs around the 4th grade level. Rumor has it that it only gets worse from there. Whether getting whistled at, chatted with, asked out at the bar by sisters of boys who like the sub for the brother, or receiving letters of affection, rumor has it that many young subs will get flirted with. Rumor has it that one sub received a note about the sub telling the student to get back on duty, so they went "to the backseat of the car and duty was on." The note also mentioned whipped cream, handcuffs, and protection--a gun, of course!

Yeah, rumor has it....

Was Ms. Newman a Sub or not? I think she was but filled in for someone on maternity leave for a whole year/semester? Either way she was a hottie fresh out of college propped up in front of a bunch of hormonally enriched 7th and 8th grade boys. YOWZA! ~AVERY

Mandark, That was a good one. She could fire up my kiln any day.

No subs.

Mrs. Hause, middle school art teacher.

One time I asked her if she could stay after school and help me work on finger painting. She thought I was serious until I explained that I wanted to use 21 fingers.

I think I got some detention for that one.

Hey, 2:04 PM, who are you? Where's the codename?

Glad to see people are back, anyway. You all have to keep checking back on your home computers this summer because we have a sudden plethora of Coffee Talk Questions that have been submitted, so it should change rather frequently. Keep 'em coming!

I cannot imagine any one of our four valedictorians or salutatorians making such a speech! I guess we were too good. I guess if one of them had a six pack beforehand, I could see him saying it, but not otherwise. He must have snuck that phrase in after it was approved by the administration. Or maybe his comment is why the speeches later had to be approved!

I'll comment on that substitute teacher question later tonight. Right now, this posting is long enough! --'96QT

God, I thought back on this one again and surmised that one should place themselves (at their present age) back in time for a better frame-of-reference. I did so for a couple seconds, and it didn't really change anything. However, the thought of Jazzercise unit with Mrs. Lacina brought back some great memories of the ol' leotard. Wooo.

ST. PAT, Good question. Hmmm. It looks like that era had a lot of commonality...I can only make a guess, I think it is safe to eliminate Dwight, as he was a salutatorian and not a valedictorian. So I would guess A.Brett Jebens. How far off am I?

As far as the question of the week goes, well the girls didn't have a lot to choose from, so I guess the answer would be no. All the teachers were older (much), and the subs well I don't remember any young ones there either. The best looking we had was Mr. Heath.
